3rd baby, 37 weeks, 3/5ths engaged

But will baby definitely come early?!

Am hoping not, well, at least not too early.

Am 37 weeks tomorrow, DC3 due on 18th Sept.
Would really love to hit September for school cut off reasons, and to have gotten a few days of school under our belt as DS1 is starting reception on 4th.

Obviously there's little I can do to slow things down (is there??) But has anyone any experience?

Midwife did say I could go to 38-39 weeks which would be ideal.

I was the same at 37 weeks but went to 40+1 with my third. Almost felt cheated that it didn't pop out early... was actually later than the first two! Ace labour though, is the good news!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 27/08/2012 21:08

My DC2 has been partially engaged since at least 36 weeks and was 3/5 by the time I had my 38-week check.

No sign of the little begger yet, though - I'm now 40+1 and had been hoping to avoid an ELCS scheduled for Wednesday by having a VBAC.

So in my experience, being head firmly down at the stage you're at doesn't necessarily mean the baby's in any hurry to make its exit!!

Good luck, I hope your DC3 is obliging when it comes to your preferred birth timetable..!

Oooh, that's good news DarkMatter!
I'd really prefer later to early, we've so much going on!
DS1 arrived 40+6 and DS2 40+2 so mw initially said very unlikely to have this one early. Until she discovered it was 3/5ths engaged!

Brilliant news re the labour too, kinda scared about it all again now!

Im on my third and was 3/5 at 37. I want him to come early though. The others were both 40+11. Grumble, waddle, click Angry

dontlaugh · 27/08/2012 21:16

I was the exact same, dc3, 3/5 engaged, baby arrived 39+1. Good luck! Was a lovely labour too, v easy.

blondiep14 · 27/08/2012 21:16

Thanks immaculad - that's good news for me.
(With you on the waddle!)

Hope your DC2 arrives before Wednesday, but good luck either way Thanks

Thanks blondie! Stretch and sweep tomorrow for a last ditch attempt to get things moving - meantime, I getting increasingly resigned to the prospect of ELCS on Wednesday.

DC2's big sister was out at 36+1 (wrong way up, hence by EMCS), which just goes to show how different each pregnancy can be!

capecath · 27/08/2012 22:13

I think it is quite common for you to be engaged early on with babies post no.1. I was 3/5ths engaged for 3 or 4 weeks with DS2 before being induced on due date...

Wants3 · 27/08/2012 22:17

I was 3/5 engaged from 35 weeks with dc3- he arrived 40+3

blondiep14 · 28/08/2012 07:01

Great news from everyone - thanks everso much.
Panicking slightly less now.

40+3 here with 4th baby and he's been head down and well engaged (mw doesn't seem to comment on how many 5ths but comments on him being engaged, plus I can feel he is) for at least 4 weeks, I'm the opposite really want him here before the back to school fuss kicks in

brettgirl2 · 29/08/2012 07:47

My second was engaged for 7 weeks Confused. I dont think it means anything at all.

blondiep14 · 31/08/2012 09:26

Thanks all.
Baby not yet made a bid for freedom!
Feels even lower today but I had the best night's sleep for a good few weeks so am happy about that.

Hope everyone waiting is well

Hi Blondie I'm due the day after you and the same, 3/5 engaged, has been since 36weeks. Midwife said baby could come any day, but to be fair she was warning me- rather than saying she thought it actually would come early. I know there's a good chance it'll still be late despite being low now (especially if it takes after me and my timekeeping).

It would be nice if baby was about a week early. Although I'm feeling very well (apart from back-ache if I'm in same position for long) I finished work a month ago and have pretty much sorted everything now. I will be going stir-crazy if I'm still waiting a month from now!

My first one and I'm getting so excited about meeting him/her.

blondiep14 · 31/08/2012 17:40

Ah, bet you can't wait paperclips!

I'm feeling a little more ready now, and happy I'll go beyond midnight for school cut-off date!

Like you I think I'll probably go over now after all this fretting about it being early! I have the 8th or 14th in my mind tho. We shall see.

It's our wedding anniversary on Wednesday, so that would be nice too.

Keep me posted on how you go.
