Are soft-food only diets normal in UK after c-sections?

Because I live in the Middle East and went to visit a friend 27 hours post-c-section at the weekend, and was shocked to discover she was only just being allowed solid food. Is that normal practice? All they'd been giving the poor girl during her 3 days in hospital before and after the section was soup and jelly!

My husband had abdominal surgery at the same hospital for a hernia and was subject to the same policy.

I would've thought that in Britain such restrictions don't apply? In which case I am definitely getting hubby

That isnt normal after a CS in the UK. You can eat what you like when you feel able.

No it isn't normal.

I've had tea & toast in recovery all 4 times (I had to eat something & not puke before they'd take the cannula out & move us to post natal ward). Just eat what you want when you're hungry.

I've never heard this before either.

My sister had an EMCS and had normal food afterwards.

I had EMCS and wasn't allowed to eat for 24 hours afterwards - this was a while back though as dd1 is now 20 Grin I don't remeber it being a problem though
