I might be a bit dim but when do you do that? During the contractions while you do your slow breathing? In between contractions when you do the sleep breathing??

Any hypno experts out there?

if i remember rightly you can use it whenever you feel the need, i always felt that it was for inbetween contractions to stay as relaxed as possible, duribng contractions you'll be too busy blowing up that balloon!

If you mean blowing up the balloon, I did it during contractions surges, at the same time as the slow breathing. If you want to do it between contractions too, that's fine, but you need to visualise the balloon expanding and floating away during the contraction surge.

The rainbow relaxation can be played at anytime to get you really relaxed, so maybe best for earlier on in labour, and then the affirmations later on in labor (although these prompted much sniggering from the hostpital midwife Hmm Sad), but I'm guessing what ever works for you.....

Thanks, that makes more sense: balloon during the contractions surges, rainbow in between/at the start and affirmations (still need to work on this!) later on when you feel you might loose it during transition.

One month to go, need to practice some more I think!

I'm doing this too - apparently once you've listed to the relaxation enough (even if you fall asleep during it) just the music will be enough to help you relax - so if you get irritated by her voice you can download just the instrumental Steven Halpern music from itunes - it's called Comfort Zone, but I've downloaded the whole album as I think just the one track will get a bit tedious
