I have wondered if to share this story but now think I am ready.
I was overdue by 4 days and showing signs of pre eclampsia so I went to hospital for tests. All was ok but to be safe they wanted me back in the morning after to be induced.
My husband and son who is 4 took me in and I as induced at 3pm, nothing much happened so they tried again at 9am the following day. That worked and I was in established labour by 4.30pm with my husband by my side.
Labour was ok and I managed with just my tens machine and gas and air. All was perfact with both myself and my baby until he was born.
I gave birth at 9.34pm to my beautiful baby boy weighing 8lb 15oz but I knew there was a problem. He was placed on my chest and rubbed with towels but with no response. The midwife calmly took him away from me onto the resuss table and started work on him. His heart rate was perfect but he was lifeless and not breathing!!!!!! People began to panic and all the emergency buttons were hit. Doctors and midwives came running in and surrounded him, I couldn't see my baby and couldn't get up off the bed. My husband was walking between me and Billy and was starting to look concerned and then more concerned and then he broke down in tears. I thought our baby had died, my heart broke in 2.
They gave him oxogen, heart massage and even shocked him but still nothing. They the tried suction and dragged a blood clot about 3 inches long from his throat. He had inhaled it on the way out and it had lodged in his throat. He hadn't taken a breath for 7 minutes and was basically dead. His apgar scores being only 6, 2 and 2, very scary indeed.
Finally I heard his amazing cry and both myself and my husband cried tears of joy.
He was taken to special care where he stayed for 4 days.
The doctors have named him a 'miracle baby'.
We are now at home and having great fun with big brother who oves him very much!
We have to go back for some checks at 8 weeks to see if all is ok but I know in my heart that no matter what, he is just perfect xxx
