My SH says the forehead swipe thermometers are the best. Not sure which brand and they are not cheap, but work quickly and are accurate!
You can look them up on amazon.

Braun inner ear thermometer here, so useful. Amazon will be the best price. I'm a student MW, so take a lot of temperatures but my GP does actually use a infrared forehead one like PP mentioned. Still like mine though!

Dont like the ear ones, you have to get the right angle nd shove them right in, invariably pisses off sleeping/ill babies. I've got the forehead swipe one now, much better, although I normally just feel and if they are hot, dose with calpol and see if it goes away.

ooh thank you very much - will look into forehead ones had never even heard of them before!

I just remeber that not being able to take her temp when a baby as thermoeter took ages to get a reading, made everything more stressful!

We have an Omron gentleTemp 510. It's great, you only need to touch it into the ear and it gives you a reading in about a second. Used it lots while DS asleep without waking him. It would be better still if the display had a backlight so you could see it in the dark.

Another one recommending Braun, I have had it since DS was a baby and he is now nearly 7 and I still haven't had to change the batteries.

Pastabee · 13/08/2012 15:01

I have the Braun one too. It's great and gives the reading in a second or two. I've not noticed that it needs to be held at a particular angle.

I agree we have the Braun ear one and pfb is turning 7 at the end of August - its still going strong 4dc later!

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 14/08/2012 04:49

Another one for Braun. I usually just sneak up on them when they're asleep !!

elizaregina · 14/08/2012 08:36

Yes richman we did this too but ours took so long even asleep she was batting it away.

Looks like forehead or braun.

had a quick look at prices - am i right we are looking at £40 ish?
