Did you take your 4yo to the doctor so he can get antibiotics? I mean, is it a proper tonsillitis or just sore throat?

winnybella · 07/08/2012 19:34

In any case, obviously limit contact between the siblings, make sure everyone washes hands etc etc, there's not much more you can do.

It's viral tonsillitis so no need for antibiotics but we are using hand gel and I've wiped all the door handles.

Grrr really stooped neighbour you've got!

This exact same thing happened to me 4 weeks ago when my DS was born. Take your eldest to the GP to get it checked and get antibiotics if needed.

My DD had it and GP said its very unlikely that the baby would get it too if you're using antibiotics correctly and limit physical contact between the two till its over. I am breastfeeding also and everything was fine, DD got over it in about a week and DS never caught anything.

Try not to panic :)

Did you ask the doctor what, if anything, to do in case a baby gets it? I mean, do they use anti-virals on very little babies? I would think probably not.

Try to limit your own contact with the older DC as well- I mean, no kisses on the mouth, sharing food etc.

There's a very good chance that baby won't get it, so don't panic yet.

I had this, in fact I took dc1 to tge gp tge day after I returned from hospital, tge go was a little shocked I'd just had a baby. It was fine Grin

winnybella · 07/08/2012 19:56

You're not a bad mother, sometimes we all are a bit slow to react, especially if tired (as you must be with a newborn) plus it probbly didn't occur to you that she would touch the baby if her own dc was ill.

Cheekychops84 · 07/08/2012 19:57

Really ? But my neighbour who had it physically held her and her 3 yr old had bad cough !

Oh, just saw that she has brought her coughing dc in as well. What a stupid woman, indeed.

winnybella · 07/08/2012 20:00

Yes, but it doesn't necessarily mean the baby will get it, especially if the neighbour didn't cough on her/put her hands in baby's mouth etc. Even 3yo coughing-well, maybe she didn't cough in baby's direction?

And sometimes people just don't get ill, even if exposed to bugs so try to relax a bit.

Cheekychops84 · 07/08/2012 20:01

But she too is I'll she jus said she has tonsillitis :(
