First baby - 39+5 and nothing happenning

I know this is probably the most silly question going, but should I expect to have felt something by now? I know pain etc is really subjective, but apart from a few painless BH contractions I haven't felt anything of note.

I've had some aching, but hard to tell whether that's just in general. I'm beginning to think it will never be over!

Just adding a bit of support. I am 39 + 6 and don't feel as if the baby will ever come out. Are you keeping active ?

JenJen84 · 05/08/2012 11:37

Oh yes, trying very hard! Every day i walk over and bring my horse in, sort her food out, hang up her haynets, let our chickens out and feed them. Same thing every evening. Not massively exerting, but still lots of walking!

Thanks for your reply, I think I knew I would go over from weeks back, I just knew, but now it's on the cards I'm feeling every second of every day now! How about you?

I don't think you'll feel much until labour actually starts and that could be another two weeks yet, my babies were 14 and 16 days overdue.

Nothing was happening at 39+6, no braxton hicks, no show, nothing at all, DD2 was born 2 hours into 39+7!

DD1 was similar but born at 40+5

JenJen84 · 05/08/2012 12:12

Ah but isn't it quicker on second children anyway BBB? I was expecting I'd have something by now!
I don't think they are going to let me go over tbh as they have always been very concerned that I'm too small so I may be lucky and get induced earlier than normal.

I felt nothing at all until my waters broke on my due date. DS1 was born 12 hours later. So don't give up hope!

Jen Jen I had dd at 42+2...absolutely no sign whatsoever of her making an appearance even after 2 sweeps...so at 14 days overdue went in to be induced..even then mw said that I was probably 1-2 cm dilated without realising but now I was firmly sealed shut!! After 3 pessaries trying to kickstart labour I eventually went into labour naturally at +16 days. Dd was only 6lb 15 oz and not dry at all and no long fingernails normally associated with overdue babies. Mw said something very interesting that due date is based on the average woman having 28 day cycle but in fact if you have slightly shorter cycle baby may come early, or if you gave a longer cycle maybe will come later...my cycles are 30 days so in fact dd probably arrived on time!!

She is my 1st as well

Flosie1989 · 05/08/2012 15:25

I'm afraid I didn't feel anything different until 3 days after being admitted into hospital to be induced! Then it was back ache and slight period pain.

From 38 weeks I was doing everything I could to get my baby out as was so fed up! After 3 sweeps, one pessery, one shot of prostin my waters finally broke but then had to go on the drip anyway as my contractions didn't become regular.

Your baby will come when they're ready Smile and as uncomfortable as it is in the end don't wish it away. Make the most of the time you have left just you and your partner Smile
