How many towels should I take for a waterbirth?

Just packing my labour bag - I've put 3 bath towels in, is that likely to be enough? The hospital said to take my own.

I think I took one towel, that I used for a shower afterwards. I can't really remember what happened re towels when I got out of the water, I lay on the bed propped up on a beanbag for the placenta to be delivered & to have some stitches so I guess I probably had a towel around me but maybe not as it was so warm in the room. Good luck, my water birth was great!

I just took the one towel to use when showering. They will use the hospital ones for all the yucky bits Smile

Take one for you and one for baby, for after labour and birth. They will have ones for use during labour and birth Smile

Thanks for your replies - when we had our tour the mw definitely said I need to take my own towels for the birth (at Good Hope). I think I'll just stick a couple of extra ones in the car in case I'm in and out of the pool a lot.

I forgot towels, and the ones they provided me with weren't big enough to go around me and bump. I held one up over the front while MW held one over my back while I walked from the pool room to the delivery room. Pretty sure I flashed some poor man my huge bump and boobs.

Take BIG ones.

Good thinking SarryB, although I should be able to deliver in the pool room as there's a bed in there too. Hmmm, I was hoping to travel light this time, may have to dig out a bigger bag...

Well, that's ok then - where I was the pool was next door to the bedroom, so I had to walk from one to the other, with OH wheeling the gas and air for me!

my hospital provided them! but i still took my own as am allergic to lots of washing powders, i think 3 is fine but yes extra in the car that your dp/dh can fetch if you need them :)

good luck i had a water birth for ds4 and it was lovely :)

sarryb when i had ds2 i laboured in the bath for a bit, anyway i HAD to get out and walk about, the bath was not in my room so i got out and marched back to my delivery rooms, dragging the gas and air canister with me STARK NAKED! the midwife was frantically trying to cover me up, i so did not care one bit, but when i think about ti now, WHAT a sight i must have been Blush

in my pool room there was a bed as well,i delivered in the pool, then had a shower in the same room and stayed in that room until i was discharged :)
