Mothercare does early and tiny baby clothes, not sure if they go down that small but worth a look?

congrats to them all BTW!

TearsBeforeBedtime · 08/03/2006 07:32

Mothercare or possibly Boots. I think Mothercare do next day delivery. Best wishes to your SIL and her two girls.

NomDePlume · 08/03/2006 07:59

Mothercare's Early Baby size (the smallest they do) is for babies weighing 2.3kg, which is 5lbs in old money

mothercare do do some sleepsuits for 3lb babies:-

www.mothercare.com/invt/lb0911&bklist=

Before they get anything, SIL should double check with hospital staff what sort of clothing is most appropriate.

uwila · 08/03/2006 08:06

You might think this sounds crazy. But my BIL son was very premature and they went out and bought clothes for a teddy bear because it was the only think small enough. Not sure how warm or what the quality of the clothes would be.

How are the twins? Are they okay?

harpsichordcarrier · 08/03/2006 08:09

yes, I have known premature babies in doll's clothes. sounds strange I know

NomDePlume · 08/03/2006 08:11

Vertbaudet's Prem size is for babies weighing 2kg, which is 4lb 4oz

Hulababy · 08/03/2006 08:17

Our local Mothercare does some premature baby sizes and it does go down very small.

throckenholt · 08/03/2006 08:26

go over to the www.twinsclub.co.uk forums - ask there - there may be lots of people who will send you clothes they no longer need (I sent mine to someone on there so no longer have any).

also do the hospital have a shop ? I got a couple of very small outfits from there when my twins were tiny (my smallest was 3lb 13oz). And the hospital should provide clothes for the first weeks anyway - they are used to dealing with tiny babies whereas the rest of us aren't.

hope the twins are doing well.

Hazellnut · 08/03/2006 08:27

I think the standard sizes in Mothercare only go down to early baby but then they do prem clothes which IIRC go down to 3 lbs and 4 lbs and as someone said here, for that they do next day delivery. Here's what they've got on the internet. Might be worth ringing them though.

jellyjelly · 08/03/2006 09:31

tesco do early baby to 7lbs.

Flip · 08/03/2006 09:36

My sister recently had a tiny baby and even the prem stuff was to big for him. So I went to Ethel Austins and bought some Newborn clothes, washed them and then stuck them on a hot drier cycle. They were perfect for him and very soft. You can always count on Ethel's stuf to shrink in the drier. Grin

cheltenhamgal · 08/03/2006 13:23

thanks everyone I am sure this will help loads ! And thanks for all your kind messages, apparantly they are taking 20ml's every 2 hours of breastmilk. I shall pass this info onto my mum and my sister so they can get shopping :)

just got back from boots, they sell prem clothing from 3lb and they had a half price sale, pack of 3 baby grows for £4.50 etc...

crunchie · 08/03/2006 13:34

My baby was smaller than this and TBH for the time they are in hospital usually the hospital have clothes that fot, or just get one or two suits. Once they come home they will be at least 4lbs and the 5lb clothes will be big (but fine)

My baby had special prem clothes which were designed for hospital use as she has so many drips/minitors etc, a normal sleep suit is useless. You need ones that have easy access. In fat it was about 2 weeks before she wore clothes at all. Even nappies were too big.

Mothercare tint baby used to come in two sizes, under 5lbs and 5 - 7.5 lbs. The smallest size will be fine.

daisy1999 · 08/03/2006 13:39

also if the smallest size are too large you could do what we did and wash and tumble dry them - it usually shrinks them a bit.

throckenholt · 08/03/2006 13:47

20 mls - that must be between them ? I am sure mine only had a couple of mls each when they were born !

cheltenhamgal · 08/03/2006 18:48

yes, it was 20mls each but is now 32 !
