38+2 and had a sweep due to concerns of big baby (about 10lb currently!)

Luckily was favourable (but boy did it hurt!) and I've got a vaginal examination document in my book so can anyone explain the cervix bit

Position - central
Length - 1cm
Consistency - med
Dilatation - 2cm

Got to go back on Sunday for another and booked in for induction next Thursday if nothing happens.

Thanks

Central position is good, the cervix has to move from the back to a central position. Length is usually 4cm so you are effacing, when you are fully effaced (cervix is now flat) you start to properly dilate I think.

You can wander around up to abut 3cm dilated and not know, especially if after you first child.

I am not a professional, clearly Grin, but everything is looking good for labour starting pretty soon. For example I had a sweep at 1-2cm dilated with a rear positioned cervix and when I had my next exam 12 hours later cervix was central and midwife said it would be 24 hours - dd2 born 20 hours later.
