Being induced in the morning

I am booked in to be induced at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Bags are packed, house is tidy and now we just wait. I can't quite believe that it's nearly all over! How on earth do I settle down and get what's possibly my last full night of sleep for a while? I wouldn't say I'm anxious, just contemplative!

Hope all goes well :)
Any reason why are you being induced on Sunday?

J4D3 · 14/07/2012 22:26

Thanks Happy! Yes, will be 12 days overdue so can't really wait much longer!

I hope you sleep well tonight and don't be worried if you turn up at 8.30 and they don't find you a bed until 5pm Smile

happyAvocado · 14/07/2012 22:28

oh dear, that is a long wait
I was induced once.... :)

I wonder if anything changed in that last 14 years in that matter

happyAvocado · 14/07/2012 22:28

who is staying with you in the hospital?

J4D3 · 14/07/2012 22:35

Thank you Random. Yes, it has felt like forever has passed to get this far!! My DH is coming with. Hopefully it'll be reasonably straight forward holds breath, am hoping that broken waters will be enough. The MW said that'll be all I need to get things shifting! I may run a bath and try to get an early night. DH is currently snoring on sofa so it's nice to know he's chilled out! Wink

Happy, how did your induction go if you don't mind me asking?

Hmmm okay I would recommend letting them break your waters straight off as it erm well ramps up the pain quite a lot...

Slow and steady is the best.

My top advice after the 45 minute post pessary laying down is:
no continuous monitoring
sit on birthing ball
tens machine on
Gas & Air - you need to inhale it as soon as the contraction starts so it's working when it peaks.

Do not try to deliver/push laid on your back. On all fours or similar much easier as gravity is helping.

Risk of being continuously monitored is that you end up on your back so the stupid thing traces properly so it hurts more and slows it down and then they expect you to deliver in that position!

Take plenty of snacks and water for your dh to drink. Take books/magazines to read in case you are hanging around ages waiting for a bed/the first pessary insertion.

J4D3 · 14/07/2012 22:47

Thanks for that Random! Am hoping to stay active fir as long as I can. After 3 failed sweeps I am actually already 3cm dilated so hoping that a pessary won't be necessary. I had no idea you had to lay down for that long after one! Hubby has a snack bag packed and I've got quite a lot too. Will there be any likelihood of them sending me back home tomorrow?

I won't tell you my story in details, but I wish they gave me gas&air
healthy daughter delivered in the end - and that what counts :)

BreeVanDerTramp · 14/07/2012 22:59

Oh good luck I went in at 8.30 am yesterday to be induced, bishops score of 2, two previous 48 hour inductions but DD1 popped out at 2.30 pm, delivered on maternity 4 bedded ward as midwives thought I was having prostin pains Grin

Currently snuggled in bed at home having a big feed - good luck!

J4D3 · 14/07/2012 23:20

Aw bree that's fab news, congratulations! I have been wondering when you'd go in. Well if you'd believe it I had a bishops of 5 on Wednesday, 5!! I have no idea why labour just won't start already! Fingers crossed to a stress free straightforward induction! raises a glass for Bree hip hip hooray!

Good luck and congratulations bree Grin

rhondajean · 15/07/2012 00:11

You won't sleep!

I was induced with 12 year old dd1 - one pessary waters went at 9 am and she was born at 3. May your day be as short as mines (and your baby as gorgeous although that obviously isn't possible Grin)

Iheartpasties · 15/07/2012 03:28

good luck my lovely.

Loislane78 · 15/07/2012 06:59

Congrats ladies :)

I'm being induced at 39 weeks (so in a few weeks time) and getting a bit anxious about it after hearing it can take forever if low Bishops score. Guess I should bounce around a bit the week before to try and get things moving!

Do you mind if I ask - if you start on the pessary, you have to lie down for like an hour but then you can wander about? You're on the main ward at this point? Then you might get another pessary if things don't progress. Then they move to ARM and then drip - is that the order it might happen in? I guess they don't let you home in between pessaries?

Sorry, bit clueless and you girls seem to know the drill :)

ButtonBoo · 15/07/2012 09:08

Good luck JD. Induction can be so unpredictable (as you've probably read tons of threads on here to that effect). But if you're already @ 3cm then it is hopeful that things will move quickly for you. Hope they get a bed for you early and don't keep you hanging on.

Lois yes, once the pessary is in you can move around like normal. Mine stung like a mother!! I had 3 lots of the gel after that over the next couple of days and you can still be up and about with that too. I had ARM and syntocin together. I didn't get up then as had epi. Contractions on the drip were quite hardcore so get G&A and/or epi if you need it.

Good luck ladies!!!

ButtonBoo · 17/07/2012 21:56

How'd it go JD???

J4D3 · 18/07/2012 11:50

Hi all! As expected induction was successful and three days have disappeared! After ARM at 4pm, full labour was established and baby was delivered with a little help from Mr. Ventouse at exactly 11pm on sunday. Weighing a whopping 9lb (not bad for a 5ft 3 lady!) only now just coming back to reality! I've only just managed my first cup of tea since Sunday, haha!

Awwww well done JD! Big congrats! DD or DS? And blimey, 9lb is a whopper. Well done you!

And relish that cup of tea. I'm still drinking half cold cups and DD is 9mo!! Wink
