I want a home birth this time I live in derby and just basically want to know everything I need to know. Anyone else had a home birth and did it turn out how you imagined it would xx

Had a home birth with my 2nd and it was a really wonderful expericence. Exactly as we'd hoped for.

Calm, relaxed, no stress of that 'is it time to go to hospital' decision, being able to potter around in familiar surroundings as and when I wanted, DH felt much more involved than first hospital birth - being on his own turf made a difference for him too, DH making tea for midwife and opening the choccie biscuits, all 3 of us chatting between contractions, climbing into bed with the new baby to drink tea and eat toast at 3am.

I'm sure that feeling so relaxed helped with progress. After about 3 hours of contractions the midwife arrived and I asked to be examined - was already 9cm!

Local community midwife team were very supportive and informative, they came out for home visit at 36 weeks with list of everything we'd need and left off their own box of tricks for us to look after.

I am very glad I decided to plan a home birth and am planning another in Oct when DC3 is due.

Best wishes.

Glad your home birth went so well. I really don't want to go to hospital this time would love a home birth. I just hate the thought of rushing around to get to the hospital again as labour with my son was only an hour and half and very nearly had him in the car on the way to hospital.

Go for it!

Book one with your community midwives and plan for one, you can always change your mind at any point. Imo it's so much more straight forward to stay at home where you're relaxed and comfy.

There's a great website dedicated to home births - unfortunately can't remember address but a bit of googling should turn it up easily. Loads of useful info. You might even find there's a home birth support group near to you, your midwife will know.

Best wishes.

I had a home birth last August with my first (and only!) and it was fantastic - I can't recommend it enough. I felt very in control being in my own home and it was so lovely to get into my own bed after DD was born. The community midwives were absolutely great.

I did a lot of research beforehand and this website was really useful.
