Pain six days after birth

I was pain free really from day 2 till today. Now I've got quite a lot of pain and feel really swollen and 'heavy' down below. Sometimes there's a sharp pain. But mostly it's a sort of dull ache and burning feeling. Bleeding is very light and there were a few hours today with none at all.

The birth was great but had a few stitches. Is this likely to be an infection? Why did I leave it till this time of say to think about doing anything about it?

Does it hurt if you press in? I had a womb infection which came to light 4 days post-birth and I felt very 'fluey' with intense pain in my stomach. Speak to your midwife/HV, they don't mind being rung OOH I found. They will prescribe antibiotics which should get rid of it. Don't put it off though if you are still in pain after. I found out last week I still have it, and am now on bed rest and need to have regular check ups.

This wasn't meant to scare you honestly! Just keep an eye on it after. Hope you feel better soon.

No abdominal pain, all vulval/ vaginal (as far as I can tell? Who knows what's there now. I daren't look!).

Yours sounds to have lasted a while, like. Hope you're recovered soon.

Can you phone midwife or doctor? Definitely worth being looked at. Even if they say it's just swollen from healing, it's better to ask. Btw, infections have a distinctive smell if you can get near enough.

Thank you, hoping it will be sorted in next couple of weeks.

I think that sounds like natural bruising coming out tbh. Agree an infection would smell.

Get some tea tree and lavender oil, mix into some milk and pour into a warm bath. Will soothe stitches a treat. Do that at least once a day until the stitches disolve. Oh and do your pelvic floor exercises, that will help.
