Low iron, c-section and sterilisation

I've had low iron for the last 6 or so weeks and have been taking iron tabs for the last 2 to try and bring the levels up. I'm having a c-section on Tuesday (my 3rd) and the midwife at the hospital called today the levels have dropped again (to 9.1) and they've ordered some blood in case i need a transfusion. She said there's not a lot I can do at this stage to bring the levbels up, but not to worry and that if the section is straightforward there shouldn't be any worrying implications - may just have to have iron injections or stronger tabs after the birth. I'm booked to be sterilised also and am now a little worried, because I'll be under the knife a bit longer, that there may be more risk of bleeding. It would be good to hear anyone else's experiences of a similar situation.

Not sure what help I'll be as I'm not sure when my iron levels dropped ( wasn't tested during the pregnancy). Two days after my section they were 7.2 which is quite low, 7 or under and I would have had a transfusion but as they were just over and I wasn't feeling lightheaded or breathless I just have to take the tabs for 6 weeks.

Like I said not sure when they dropped but i doubt they plummeted that low that quickly so suspect i was low on iron prior to the section and all went well with the section itself.

To be honest the sterilisation adds on maybe 5 mins extra at most so don't worry about the extra time :-)

Thanks ladies. Feeling a bit better about it after talking to others.
