lacerations caused by forceps-normal?

DS was delivered by forceps and it did seem very brutal at the time, and I suffered deep lacerations caused by the forceps. Is this normal, does it happen a lot with forceps, or was I unlucky? We're thinking about having another baby but I'm not keen on the thought of almost bleeding to death again (and neither is DH), so we are going to have a debrief with the midwife and go through the notes from the birth. Really I just wanted to find out if the deep lacerations were to be expected, or if the forceps were maybe not used very expertly.

I didn't have any lacerations for my DD's forceps delivery. I often describe it as brutal but certainly didn't have lacerations.
Just the episiotomy which healed well.

Have you had ongoing problems as a result? Good luck for the debrief.

no lasting damage fortunately, although it was pretty painful for a few weeks. It will be interesting to go over the notes with the midwife, I'm sure what happened to me was rare and unlikely to happen again, but I just need to be sure.

I had a 'generous' episiotomy and 2nd degree tear but no lacerations. It is brutal and I hope you get some closure from your debrief, I cried all the way through mine but I'm now pregnant with dc2. I've convinced myself it will be different this time Smile good luck
