this is my second pregnancy but with my first i had a scheduled c section at 38 weeks due to my daughter being breech the entire pregnancy! so ive no idea what to expect and dont remember any of these things im having now with my first.

im 38 weeks pregnant, i have hurrendous back ache which ive had for weeks, im getting about 15 braxton hicks a day which ive been getting for months but they are starting to get more painful and uncomfortable now.
i am having thee most awful shooting pains right down through my privates, mostly when im standing but i get them lying down too, they literally knock me off my feet. ive been having a lot of discharge (thick and white)
and ive explained all this to my midwife and got nothing! she couldnt have got me out the door quick enough and fobbed me off with yeah thats normal..

so this morning i decided i would maybe check things myself (i know its probably not recommended and i dont need any lectures thanks) i made sure i cleaned and disinfected my hands and inserted a finger to see if i could feel my cervix to see if anything was happening (midwife wouldnt examine me because she said it was up to my consultant to do that) anyways... i was really reallly shocked to feel my cervix so so low, its literally just past the entrance!! i wasnt sure if this was definatley it but from what ive researched it is.. it had a little slit in it and i got a bit of a fright when my finger almost popped through it! it felt all very spongy and soft, but what concerned me was how low it was! is this normal? should the cervix be low before labour? and if so is that an indication that it could be soon???

im close to tears today, my two year old is trying to wind me right up and i feel nauseus and extremely fatigued, im so so fed up and i suppose im wonderin or really hopein that any of these things could mean im not far off labor?? im having a vbac this time and im so excited to have the chance to give birth naturally this time, im just so exhausted now, if anyone has any similiar symptoms or anything positive to tell me id really appreciate it, thanks for reading xx

I never checked myself so I have no idea what it should feel like but I know that it does come down lower. Mine was always so high and never effects or dilated so I ended up with an EMCS.

Sounds like it won't be long though!

Am bumping you in the hope that someone 'qualified' can advise...

Good luck!!

agoodman i am feeling the exactly same as urself. I am near 37 weeks with my 3rd and i ready for the hills. have been having terrible BH and i also suffer with chronic back pain and SPD. I am very teary and just cannot wait til all is over and im sittting with baby in my arms :)

MW wont do too much for you as ur only 38 weeks but just try and stay calm and focused on holding ur wee baby and i think to myself i have done 36 weeks another few wont kill me Hmm im here to hold ur hand and if ya need a good moan moan away :)

as for ur cervix that does sound promising as its ment to be far back and hard to reach. I give myself a sweep with DD and she came the next day although i was 40+2 days.

agoodman · 22/06/2012 16:24

Oh im with you sam on the tears. Im so exhausted being pregnant and ive tried almost everything to help things along but nothing.. When you said you have done 36 weeks can do a few more actually made me feel better cuz your so right.
Just desperate for the end..
So your cervix is meant to be far back? I had looked at doing sweeps but i wont try anythin like that till im full term. My midwife has told me that if i go overdue ill probably end up with another section and i will be so dissapointed so im praying something happens soon.
Thanks for your lovely reply and i feel better already having a winge about it. Think husbands sick of listening to me!.
Have you tried anything for your back pain? Xx

i have had physio and all the usual treatment they offer you in pregnancy but nothing is helping. I am taking medication but have come off alot of it as its making baby sleepy and i dont want baby to be born with withdrawal :(

noone tells you how hard pregnancy really is but it is definately all worth it in the end. Because i am having so much pain i have to go next week to get a date for induction so hopefully wont be going past 39 weeks.

with DS he was my first i went 10 days over and was induced. i tried everything possible to get him out but nothing worked. With DD i tried to stay more active and i took raspberry leaf tablets instead of the tea and sweeped myself at 40+2 day and she came herself. I know how you feel about trying to get going urself i was so certain i didnt want to be induced again and im glad DD came herself. With this baby I am in such a bad way i can live with induction.

Im glad ur feeling better and you should be proud of urself getting to 38 weeks and count down ur last 14 days and hopefully baby will be here before then. you have done 266 days so 14 will fly in :)

agoodman · 22/06/2012 16:51

Aw you poor thing. Ive not had it that bad that ive needed medication but its really not nice. The thing that kills me the most is not being able to pick up my little girl and play with her without being in agony.

Ive heard induction is pretty tough going. Im not allowed to be induced due to my previous section so i would just have the section again if i go overdue :-(

i was almost tempted to try some castor oil other day but avoided it and ive been using evening primrose. Just been inserting a capsule before bed and maybe it will help ripen things!
Im having a lot of pelvic pain right now too and pain in my lower tummy on and off. Not contraction pain cuz my belly isnt tightening but its a horride pain.
My god have i really done that many days!! 14 will be a peace a cake... Lol ill be most delighted about being able to put my socks on again myself without looking like a complete idiot xx
