I know this isn't normal, will it wait til tomorrow?

Not strictly 'childbirth' but didn't know where else to post! I gave birth 4 weeks ago, epesiotomy and ventouse delivery and had to have placenta manually removed as didn't pass. Have had a normal lochia/discharge until this week when it seemed a bit smelly. Today I feel a bit fluey and tummy is uncomfortable, a bit like period pains, also sore when sitting down. Just been to the loo and - gross alert!- found what I can only describe as a chunk of flesh amongst the discharge in my pad. I phoned the doctors who offered me an appointment next Thursday!! I asked to speak to a doctor, and have been told one will ring me tomorrow.

Has this happened to anyone else? Am I ok to wait til tomorrow or is it more urgent?! Don't want to panic unnecessarily.

Has not happened to me but I don't think it can wait, it sounds like you have an infection. I would go to A&E.

Ring your maternity ward, I know you are outside their usual care window, but they will know best. Have you kept the pad? Horrible I know but they like to see that sort of thing.
Do you have a temperature? Regardless I think you need to be checked out asap, if it is an infection it is better to catch it early.

Thanks for the quick replies. Think I'll ring maternity ward first as home alone with DS so don't want to go dashing off to a&e then have to wait for ages. I do feel a bit hot, bloody hell wish I hadn't ignored the smelly discharge now serves me right!

Best of luck sweetie and hope it's something easily sorted. Tell us you're okay when it's sorted so if anyone else searches this thread for an answer, they'll know what to do x

Update - glad I took your advice ladies, got to go to the gynae ward tonight to have temperature and bloods checked. Just waiting for DP to pick me up, typically he's at work over 1/2 an hour away but I'd rather not go on my own. Also have to take DS with me, they said I might have to stay in, really hope not!

I can see from your 2nd post you're on your way to hosp. I think the others are right, sounds like an infection to me.

I had an infection in my scar (EMCS) and it smelt awful. I had to stay in for 4 nights on IV antibiotics. DD stayed with me.

Poor you Sad Hope you get sorted asap!

I was going to say get yourself to A&E, but looks like I'm too late. Get well soon!

Mama1980 · 21/06/2012 22:18

Glad you are going to see a dr. Sounds like a infection. Get well soon xxx

Just got home from the hospital, turned out I had some retained placenta still in there which had caused an infection. Had to have iv antibiotics and a drug to relax the cervix to allow it to pass out. Have also got more antibiotics to take for a week which isn't going to help with his colic!
