i decided to have a c section for various medical reasons. I just read that there is overhang over the scar....is that a permanent thing...does that mean your belly never goes flat again ...
it made me a little sad

mine was only 3 years ago, yes its there if I am carrying a few extra pounds, the scar stays in so flab starts above it IYKWIM. But if I'm a good weight its barely there

2 sections 19 months apart. Overweight,no muscle separation and no overhang. My scar is very low, about 2" below my pubes.

I carried small, maybe this makes a difference.

you might have something there AlpinePony. My scar is about 2 inches above my pubes and I had a massive bump and baby, I also had to have the section because he got stuck during delivery - he was coming out back to back and was 9lb 13oz. I was dilated to 8cm after 32 hours of proper labour and his head was stuck fast. They actually had quite a job tugging him backwards during the section So maybe they had to cut further up?

DD2 born by ELCS weighing 6lb 9oz (dinky dot!) Small bump, 20lb total pg weight gain and my scar is a good inch or inch-and-a-half below where my pubes start.

Yes, my DD was also small 6lb 8oz as was I. I probably put on no more than 20 lbs (and lhave lost 10-15 of those). Probably also helps. I also don't (generally) put on weight around the middle easily.

wow thank you so much ladies...hope all the overhangs are just temporary for all of us....
These kids just better grow up to respect us eh ...lol

I have only got the same overhang that I had before my 2 sections Grin

Daisybell1 · 21/06/2012 05:28

My scar is high too - about 2 inches above my pubes. I had a shelf rather than overhang but that's gone in the last few weeks as a combination of doing slimming world and being 8 weeks with dc2!

ChunkyPickle · 21/06/2012 06:16

I'm carrying a lot of extra pounds and have an overhang, but it's nothing to do with the c-section scar which is a good inch and a bit lower and perfectly flat (barely visible in fact)

I don't know what makes the difference - could it be something to do with how the surgeon closes up?

Chubfuddler · 21/06/2012 06:18

I had an overhang for the first six months. Then I lost two of the extra three to four stone I was carrying and it's pretty much gone. Some people lose some of the subcutaneous fat after a c section and end up with a pouch after a c section, even if slim. But that wasn't the case for me, I was just fat.

I put on over 40 pounds with my pregnancy!-& DS is a big baby too, & my weight is continuing to drop (with diet & exercise) & my tummy continues to get flatter (I'd say I'm a size 8 currently, more or less, waiting to get down to my normal size 6, but my tummy which is getting flatter still has a bit of a way to go)..no stretch marks or loose skin - but in the first few weeks I had a lot of weight to loose and my tummy didn't look like it was going anywhere fast!! It's 12.5 weeks postpartum for me now so in the scheme of things, it's really not taking too long. You can and will get back into good shape as long as you're careful with diet and exercise after Smile
