This is my 3rd CS, so you'd think I'd know Hmm but I thought I would feel better by now.

My innards feel ok IYSWIM, but my scar is still sore and I still have to be quite cautious how I move. It looks fine from the outside - nice and neat.

I thought that last time I didn't need any pain relief by 2 weeks but I'm still taking as much as I can.

My mum thinks I should see the doc, but is this just normal?

Maybe as it's your 3rd CS, your body might be taking longer to heal due to scar tissue from the previous 2 surgeries/births? Or it could be that your body is just taking abdifferent course of healing action? Also, i assume you now have at least 2 kids and a newborn to look after? All very draining, physically.

I'm sure someone with more smarts on this subject will be along soon :) All the best x

Not sure about repeat sections, but with my EMCS I had a mild external infection that caused pain in the scar. Managed to treat with antibiotic cream rather than tablets.

Sounds daft but can you get someone to smell it for you? Mine definitely had that 'infected' smell even though it didn't look particularly bad.

I am actually pretty well looked after, the main thing I'm doing being feeding an easy baby

Grin

maybe I'm just soft!

Yes Yank - same. Mine hurt and I had an infection. On my 3rd mw visit (discharge visit), I mentioned it was sore and said I noticed a smell (kind of chemically). MW asked if I was wearing a sanitary towel and...prepare yourself...asked to smell it!! Now, I know when you have a baby, pretty much all dignity goes out the window, but having someone sniff your sanitary towel is pretty low down on the list of birth/pregnancy highlights!! She then took off my steri-strips and there was a lot of pus etc. Ended up back in hosp for 4 nights on IV antibiotics!

OP - Soreness is expected but real pain shouldn't be ignored. If it's infected it might not be oozing out of the scar. Is there any redness around the scar? Any temperature? I would speak to HV. Are you still under hosp care? Think I was up until 2 weeks. Give the post-natal ward a ring

HamblesHandbag · 14/06/2012 21:29

oh gawd, sniffing sanitary towel Shock

I really really hope it's not infected, I'm terrified of going back in now.

My stitches are out now, I've no temperature, I don't think there's a smell, but I'll check for redness.

Yes, sorry it was a bit graphic!! Just what you want to read after dinner eh?! Am sure it's not infected but best get it checked out.
