Split stitches?

I'm around 4 weeks postpartum and I finally had the courage tonight to check what's happening down there. Well it feels like I haven't even been stitched at all after my 2nd degree tear, it just feels like a v shaped slit that starts around half an inch from my anus.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? I'm quite upset about it - I'll probably need to be re-cut and re-stitched or something. It looks and feels horrible :(

Yes I had this it's not common.but not uncommon either.are you in pain? You should see your go and ask for referral to gynecologist. Your gp won't be familiar with this scenario most likely but a consultant will. But dont worry or try not to,you may not needs re stitch there are other way to treat the problem and even if you do need re stitches it's a fairly simple op and people who need it ate very glad they did after iyswim.

I had this (although my wound was an episiotomy, not a tear). When the stitches come undone the medical professionals call it "the wound breaking down". They don't tend to cut and restitch unless there is a problem with the way it's healing. Unfortunately you need to wait until the scar tissue grows into the gap Sad. It is painful and at high risk of infection (for obvious reasons). Make sure you get good pain relief (diclofenac from Dr) and keep it very very clean (change pads often if you're still bleeding, tea tree bath, dab dry with clean towel NOT hairdryer, it just blows bacteria in!) I used to hold a pad soaked in cold water over it when I went to the loo to keep it protected and avoid that bursting open feeling.

Sorry you're going through this, I wish more was made of what to expect re: stitches in NCT/antenatal classes. I think the stat is that 91% of women need stitches so you are not alone!

Thank you for the replies. It's not really painful although I might have an infection as bleeding stopped about a week ago but I am still getting bright yellow discharge (that doesn't smell particularly nice..)
I am seeing a gp today so hopefully they will give me an idea of what's happening next..
