Royal Free Hospital/home birth

Hello, I have booked a home birth for my second baby, due end of July.

I am being looked after by community midwives from the Royal Free, and wonder if anyone has experience of them/had a home birth in the area that you could tell me about? I have been feeling really confident about a home birth until recently, but after a couple of fairly underwhelming appointments and phone calls with the community midwives, I am not feeling hugely confident in them - I don't feel very supported, or even that they feel particularly confident/keen on the idea, which doesn't really inspire great confidence! I'd love to hear of anyone else's experiences.

thank you

Hi, I'm Emma Hardwick, a consultant midwife at the Royal Free.

We work hard to ensure all our mums-to-be feel supported and receive a high standard of care. I'm sorry to hear that this hasn't been your experience and that you don't feel supported following the visits by the community midwives and that you feel they are not keen on your choice of a home birth.

I would really like to discuss this further with you and talk through how you can be supported in your decision. Please could you contact me by email at [email protected] so that we can arrange a telephone conversation or meeting with you.

I look forward to hearing from you, Emma
