Cardiff Heath Hospital

Just wondered if anyone had experienced giving birth at the Heath Hospital, Cardiff. I'm due next week and am interested in hearing about your experiences.

Have heard that it is much better now than a few years ago when I had DS. The new midwifery ward was lovely as it had only just opened a few weeks earlier but I got transferred up to the Consultant Led Wing during labour which was absolutely dreadful - old and dirty. Apparently it has all been done up now and should be a much better experience for anyone being admitted to either.

Had ds2 there three plus years ago. They were lovely, and when his heart rate dropped suddenly about a dozen people seemed to appear out of the walls and rushed me straight in the theatre and got him out super quick. I was well impressed (afterwards, when we knew everything was ok!).

I had DD1 there in 2006 in the consultant unit and had no problems. I think the room I delivered in was one of the newer ones and was pleasant enough with its own bathroom. They showed us the MW unit when we had the hospital tour and that was lovely. The postnatal ward was a 6 bed one and obviously pretty busy with lots of comings and goings so not much sleep to be had. I know that the whole place has been renovated since so you should be fine. Best of luck.

Had both ds there last one 3 weeks ago :) staff are lovely and rooms are great. If ur cl be warned the postnatal wards overlook the children's hospital which is having building work so is loud during the day. If you are in the mlu it is lovely.
