I am hoping to try a water birth for my 2nd DC (due on monday) MW has said that i may labour in the pool (if available) but will be best to give birth on "dry land" due to monitoring the blood loss after.

Has anyone had experience of this?

Kind of defeats the object of me wanting to give birth IN the pool :(

That doesnt make sense to me. PPH is exactly that - POST partum, so as long as you don't hang about in the pool after, then why is it a problem? I'd ask for a second opinion, along with an assessment of your risk factors.

i had a pph 1000mls after i delivered DD & placenta naturally. And its because i have a tendency to be anameic (fingers crossed i am topped up now since i've been on iron) but thats why they said i think.

I will ask again tomorrow.

When i was pg last time (had a MMC unfortunately so it didn't progress) at my booking appt my MW said exactly the same to me and also said i would also have to have consultant led care (for the delivery only). I also had retained products though and ventouse birth, so they might have also been contributory factors....

How much did you lose last time? did you need a transfusion?

I had a PPH with DC1, due to her tearing the cervix on the way out, and was told that I was not allowed in the birthing pool for subsequent deliveries. I asked each time as I have had 3 more babies and never had a repeat PPH. Like you were told, it is due to the dilution of the blood in the water so they can't quantify the blood loss. I was told this by midwives and OB.

Good luck for your delivery.
