Your 2nd labour more painful?

I found my DD's labour very intense as it was a fast one. I am due with DC2 in 2 weeks and am wondering if I should expect a higher amount of pain?

I laboured her naturally, but I did find it intense.

My 1st one was 28 hours of long slow albeit painful labour and my second 6 hours from show to finish! My second was more painful nd intense but had i known beforehand it would only last 6 hours I would have been happier! No time for anything other than a bit of gas and air and out she came!! My 3rd was 18 years later, induced and a far too long experience - 28 hours - culminating in the threat of forceps which proved unnecessary when they broke my waters(originally supposed to have gone 12 hours previously) x So my view - and yes I can remember every pain as if yesterday - is more pain and intensity beats pain and waiting around for hours and hours - good luck!!

I found 2nd more painful labour wise, was born 8 days ago, I didn't experience as much as the bearing down unbearable pushing pain or the burning sensation as much as I did my first, but I found pushing harder as I new what was coming(pain wise) so apology but in my experience 2nd labour (10 hours) was more painful than 1st(24 hours)
Good luck... Pain is instantly forgotten with both when their in my arms!

Iirc, both labours were equally as painful, but with DD2 the labour was shorter (DD1 was 7 hours, DD2 was 3 hours - both from 1st contraction). My second labour was eased by having a water birth though - which definitely helped with at least the crowning.

One thing I wasn't prepared for was how bad the after pains were, nor for how long they went on for - over 2 weeks with DD2.

Good luck!

It was the same - I remember as the contractions started just how intense it was

However, second birth significantly quicker so it ramped up pretty quickly and it didn't take long for me to get minute long cx with barely a breathe between them

First was horrible even with an epidural (was a syntocinon drip induction), 2nd was a planned HB and I have had more painful periods then DD2's 25 hour labour!

Afterpains were worse than with DD1 though but manageable with paracetamol. Not looking forward to the birth of DD4 as the afterpains get worse with each baby.....

1st - 8 hours with no pain relief, but I remember it being pretty painful and me shouting 'cut it out' when I was crowning.
2nd - didn't realise DD2 was about to be born and had her in the downstairs toilet room it was all so quick.

So, no, 2nd labour nowhere near as painful.

Had a wonderfully positive epidural with DD1 then because of the need to plan banysitters etc. I was much further along when I got into hospital with DD2. Got epidural later so felt some pain on pushing, then had a retained placenta which was removed by my gyne with no additional pain relief. That hurt. A lot. And looked v scary fom DH's viewpoint. But I had DD2 snuggled on me at that point and I am grateful my gyne decided not to knock me out and send me into theatre as I would have missed those precious first moments. Worth it, a million times over Smile

Babysitters, of course!

Very very different. First was induced, 16hrs, felt tortuously painful i really was desperately ready for epidural which was fab once they resited and it worked! Awful. 2nd was 50mins from 4cms to babe in arms. Contractions painful but i coped better pushing was so fast and intense it was insane i felt i was going to split open right up my middle! but it was over before it started no stitches, practically leapt off the bed into the chair afterwards to be taken to my room. Overall i was thrilled with how it went. I was on a high for days!
