Hi all I have a meeting with Dr. Roshni Patel at the Chelsea and Westminster to discuss my somewhat controversial birth plan. Has anyone had any experience of having her as an obstetrician ?

I know one girl who had her in the end as her own obstetrician wasn't available on the day of the emergency c section and she loved her...very caring and listened to her wishes carefully she said...personally i am with dr keith duncan and have roshni patel as one of the back up when keith is not there..

I had an appointment with Roshni when Keith Duncan was away (my son was born early September - Roger Marwwod was cover for the second half of the week Keith was away, but I actually ended up being delivered by Vasso Terzidou who was excellent, as sod's law he was two weeks early). She was very nice and easy to talk to. I remember asking her what the epidural rate was in the Kensington Wing for first time mothers - she told me 80% and was very much of the 'there are no prizes for going without pain relief' camp. That is obviously true but I did feel a little discouraged as I wanted a natural birth if possible. She did mention that she lives close by the hospital and would be around for the whole labour (very close by if not actually in the room). I didn't get the impression Keith would be... Though of course he would be there for the catch :-) and making all clinical decisions / performing all procedures. she seemed very competent and listened to my concerns and questions. She has performed literally thousands of c sections if that is relevant for you.

As it turns out I had a fairly quick labour with only gas and air, v minor 1st degree internal tear. Babe was 8lb 3. Vasso was stupendous :-)

Thanks for yor replies. It is reassuring to hear that she listens and is easy to talk to, my birth plan is aiming for a natural birth despite some medical issues so I hope she will hear me out.

Roshni Patel delivered my DD and I can't say enough good things about the care I had - really thorough and caring. She has also looked after my cousin (who is sooooo hard to please) and now she can't stop thanking me.
Last time she ended up with Nick Wales for her delivery. Whilst he was nice enough, she said it was a totally different experience being looked after by Dr Patel for her DD.
In my opinion (and 2 mums in my ante-natal class) Dr Patel goes out of her way to support you and always makes you feel as if she has time for you. You never feel rushed out of the room (like I've heard about some of the others).
You won't regret being looked after by her. Go for it.

Roshni looked after me this year - I had a C section. Roshni was fantastic, I have the smallest car and a healthy baby! She is incredibly bright, extremely good at her job and has a lovely bedside manner. I really recommend her.

She is AMAZING. Kind, sensible, a great listener, totally reassuring and v experienced. She delivered my DS and I had some special concerns which she dealt with so sympathetically. A lovely person and a great doctor.

I wanted to post up on here because this forum helped us choose our consultant at the Chelsea and Westminster Kensignton Wing. After the millions of consultants on the C&W website, we decided to go with Dr Roshni Patel and she was absolutely amazing.

From the minute we met her, she was extremely caring, empathetic with how our previous 2 child births had gone and helped us come up with a plan which was not only medically the right approach but something we were comfortable with. She filled us with a lot of confidence that we were in safe hands.

On the day I went into labour, it was a Saturday night. Dr Roshni Patel managed to get to the hospital before me (she lives a short bike ride away). Despite ruining her dinner plans she was incredibly caring, professional and put us at ease. We knew what was happening at every single stage of the process and she was always around. The nurses and other staff were amazing, but you could clearly tell she was in charge and had co-ordinated the team extremely well.

I delivered via a C-section as planned, the surgery was quick but done very calmly and it was the best one out of the three. Dr Patel helped me recover quickly as she knew I wanted to go home to my other two children. Even my scar is looking good just 6 weeks post!

I can’t recommend her highly enough, she’s super professional but at the same time extremely caring. I wish I had her for my first child, a completely different experience being under her care. There is no way I am having baby number 4 but if I was, I wouldn’t think twice about booking her.
