Hello all, i had a EMCS 17 weeks ago and the area around my scar is still a bit tender and feels kinda odd. i would describe it as numb but tender at the same tme. some days are worse than others and if i have trapped wind it's uncomfortable. is this normal 4 months after or should i be going to GP?

the scar itself is very well healed, no issues there but i do still prefer to wear my granny big pants even now as the tighter ones can be a bit too tight on the scar... thanks in advance folks :)

I'm way behind you. 8 wks post emcs and still feeling numb above a perfectly well healing scar. A friend had an emcs 18 month ago and still numb Sad

I have had two EMCSs and one elective. My scar has felt different after each. Tender and numb for a long time after the first, brilliant after the second. And three years on from the third (elective), my scar often feels sore and irritated when I am overtired / a bit unwell.

I find Lansinoh nipple cream (really!) is the most soothing thing on the planet.

wow, that's interesting about the Lansinoh cream, i have some left over from the early bf-ing days so will have to try it! :)

i thought it was probably normal but DP was concerned when i said it still hurt so long after and it got me wondering... it is major surgery after all!

I am 16 months on from a CS and my scar still feels numb and a bit ood to the touch. I'm pregnant now and the bump is growing and I've noticed it's really started to itch as it's being stretched. I'm putting bio oil on it everyday which someone recommended.

I have had two EMCSs too. With first one I still felt numb around scar and uncomfortable internally for about 6 months afterwards (but had attempted ventouse and forceps with only local anaesthetic prior to EMCS). I am 10 weeks post 2nd section now and have numbness still and sometimes tingling in scar area. I have started dry brushing around the scar area to increase blood flow and also am finding exercising is helping too.

I think everybody is different with their healing times and circumstances of their CS, there is no set time for recovery. It could be that your nerves in that area are beginning to regenerate and as a result it will feel a bit weird for a while.

Bepanthen is also good if the skin is a little sore, plus bathing with salt and tea tree oil. Make sure you dry the area well after your bath/shower especially if you have an overhang as you can get yeast infections (you are more susceptable if run-down).

My friend had a emc 9 years ago for her daughter and sais there are certain areas in her abdomen which are completely numb...not painful though...appearents some nerves get cut

My CS scar from over 2 years ago still feels slightly numb. They often feel strange for a while after the operation - don't worry, it all sounds very normal and it will heal in time.

5 + 3yrs on from my sections and 3yrs on from a hysterectomy (same cut). Still get a bit numb and achy at times. No problems with crunches or weights at the gym and otherwise it all healed fine.

Really hurts if the kids kick it at the wrong angle. Must be broken nerves Confused.

I'm 3.5 yrs after CS and it still feels numb!

OhWhatAPalaver · 06/05/2012 10:21

thanks for everyone's comments, glad to hear it's normal! Meglet, my DD also sometimes kicks it accidentally, it does bloody hurt!
