Lewisham Hospital MLU - pethedine

Hi there,
Can anyone tell me whether they have used pethidine at the Lewisham MLU (midwife centre)? I keep getting mixed answers... their website says no, but another person said if you beg they might let you...

I'm just trying to figure out my options and "battle plan", as it were. I know it will most likely get thrown out the window, but it helps me to know my options nevertheless.

Thanks ladies!!!

Good morning,

I work at Lewisham Healtchare NHS Trust, and have spoken to Lynn Bayes, our Birth Centre and Labour Ward Matron, who says:

"Yes we do have pethidine in the Birth Centre. We don't use it very often, as most women want to use the water pools, and they can't get into the water for 3-4 hours after having pethidine. But if a woman is exhausted or actually requests pethidine we would be happy to provide her with that pain relief option."

I hope that helps - if you would like to speak to a members of the Birth Centre staff directly, please call them on 0208 333 3000 ext 8533, or email [email protected].

Thanks,

Joe
