whats normal bleeding after childbirth? (seriously TMI WARNING)

Basically, I had my son at 5.34 saturday morning, there was blood but certainly nothing compared to the amount of DS1, anyway, it wasn't heavy, even the day he was born. And ever since its been lighter, and now today its so light I haven't got to change pads ( have done as risk of infection and basic cleanliness) but I really could have the same one one that I had this morning and still be ok.
The blood is now like a light brown goo, its not runny slightly thick, and mucussy with tiny light brown clumps.
Sorry for the tmi but surely after 2 days I shouldn't even be nearly finished bleeding yet?? Midwife does think its very strange and said it could go heavier but it just seems so wierd.

My mum insists she didn't bleed AT ALL after me and then only one day of spotting afer my brother.

I had an ELCS for DD2 on the 19th April. Nothing at all on the day of the birth; nothing on following day until I stood up, then whoosh! Some came flooding out. Days 3-7 were a normal period-like flow, then from day 8-9, I bled quite heavily. To be fair, I had been doin more around the house and standing up/walking around for longer. My CMW said that this was normal - the blood has to come out and more movement encourages the flow. She said that the time to worry would be if you notice green mucous and/or were passing clots larger than a 50p piece.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby Flowers and I hope this helps!

With ds I had the odd bit of brown blood/mucous until day 4 when I bleed properly. Never heavily though.

That sounds very normal for a quick recovery. The discharge you are getting is typical once the frank bleeding has settled. That will carry on until your womb has shrunk down to its non pregnant size. Basically, the womb is a big ball of muscle about the size of a grapefruit after the birth. It needs to get down to a small pear (always fruit analogies in medicine). In order to do this, the muscle mass needs to be drastically reduced and to do this, the womb digests itself with enzymes!! yes thats what your discharge is?...
