at 39+2 i had a midwife appointment. i mentioned to her the severe headache and vision problems id been having and she took my bp and it was 140/90 and i had trace protein in my urine. She advised me to call delivary suite if the headache hant gone by 4/5pm that afternoon. It hadnt gone so i called them and they told me to come in and bring a bag.

I got there and they took my bp it was 160/110 and i had +++ of protein. They put me on the CTG monitor and noticed i was contracting regularly they checked me and i was dilated to 1cm. They dicided i had PET and where going to induce me.

i had to have an ECG before i could get induced because my heart rate was going faster then DS. Mine at 144bpm DS at 124bpm. I was given the pessary and was left to it. The next day i was checked and was at 1-2cm and 80% thinned out so got the gel to do the last of the thinning out.

On my EDD i was taken round to the delivary suiete and i had my waters broken at 1cm at 10.30am. The midwife couldnt do it so she had to get the doctor to do it. The doctor asked for the hook thing to break my waters and the midwife had to go and find one and the doctor just sat there for the whole time with her hand inside me touching DS head and then she tried to break my waters with her fingers. After a lot of hacking and sawing my waters where broken and the flood gates opened.

I got one drip in my left hand for the antibiotics as i carry group-b strep and got a drip in my right hand to give me some bad boy contractions. They also attached to the clip to DS head as they where having trouble monitioring his heartbeat. This saved his life.

hours later into labour with just gas and air the midwifes went to fetch the doctors. i heard them muttering emergency c-section and then the doctors came to talk to me. She explained they have 3 hearbeat catagories cat1: nice and normal. cat2: not so good lets keep and eye on it and cat3: do something now. She explained we where in cat2 and heading towards cat3. The doctors where in every ten miutes and then suddenly DS heartrate seriously plummated and i was rushed to theatre for a crash section.

DS was born blue and not breathing. The cord was so tight around his neck that he couldnt even get his head onto the cervix. After 17 hours of labour i only reached 3cm. The doctors struggled to remove the cord and they had to pull his feet out of my ribs.

I had a massive PPH of just under 2l in theatre and ended up in the HDU having 4 blood transfusions. I developed life threatening blood poisiong called sepsis the stage before septic shock and spent 6 days in the HDU with critical midwife care and 3 weeks in hospital.

Everything we went through is so worth it though as i have my amazing funny and beautiful DS who is nearly 13 weeks old Grin

Just shows that for all we complain, the majority of NHS staff are good at their jobs. I'm glad everything turned out for you and DS, big congratulations!!

Thankyou! i really could not fault my care during labour of recovery was above the norm. And because i was in for so long we got a round of applause for leaving!!

Wow, what a story. Just goes to show that we are fortunate to have the c-section option in cases like this. Huge congrats to you and your family.

yeah i dont like to think about it but if it wasnt for the section he would of died. Thankyou he is very spoilt! Grin

I also had an emergency section with DD, although not a crash situation like yours. Her head was well and truly wedged and they said without a section, she would have died for that reason alone. Makes me shudder to think about it.
