I'm sure I'm not alone round here in thinking that this is one of the most significant things taht could improve maternity care. According to the NCT magazine there is a new proposal put forward by the Independent Midwives Association, which is being discussed within government. You can sign a petition to support the campaign here

Well I've added my name and forwarded the link to 50 people and asked them sign and to forward it on to everyone they know.

Maybe Highlander's right and it won't happen, but if it doesn't it won't be for lack of me shouting about it!

IMHO it isn't that there isn't the money - there are huge amounts of money being wasted by the govt on silly things all the time. (eg new computer bookings software for GPs which isn't compatible with the computers which the govt bought for them less than a year ago at a cost of over a billion pounds )

I think that the government just spend money wherever they think the votes are and fritter the rest on projects which advance their personal careers and profiles. If they believe that there are votes in midwives, and that they're losing votes because of midwife shortages they'll pay for the midwives eventually. Not because it's the 'right thing to do'. Just because otherwise they'd lose their grip on the greasy pole... So we should keep shouting at them however long it takes. It might be that it's our DD's who benefit from the campaign rather than us. Right, getting off my soapbox now and slinking back to work
