mucus plug going, how long till labour?

I'm pretty sure my mucus plug is coming away, starting first thing yesterday. Brownish tinged gunky stuff (sorry TMI). I'm feeling a bit of period type pains too, but nothing major. Am getting impatient now for something else to happen, how long could it be?

I guess everyone is different, but what was your experience? Thanks, am getting antsy and want it to happen!

No personal experience as I'm only 35 weeks but I was told by midwife the plug can come away up to two weeks before birth

How many weeks are you though because that may make a difference? Good luck I hope it's the start of the end for you :)

I've had a snotty non-bloody show since Friday. 41w today Hmm

I'm 39 weeks tomorrow, so am hoping it might be time now. Have had enough tbh!

I'm 37+4 and been having bloody show since Monday , been getting stop/start contractions since. This is dc6 and the only other time I can remember losing a plug before the birth was dc3 and I gave birth 8 hours later. So not really much of an answer for you but letting you know you're not alone with the waiting for something to start Blush

Mine went on a Saturday morning, went into labour on Monday morning. Had twingy pains before and after so it sounds like you are ready to go. Good luck!

JimbosJetSet · 11/04/2012 21:05

I had a show 24 hours before my first DD arrived.
Everyone is totally different!

Well, thanks everyone, I knew this wouldn't give me the answer to my question "when is he going to come out goddammit!" but I tried anyway. Sigh.

I do think it's coming soon, am having more braxton hicks and achy pains, I guess I just wanted someone to say, yes obviously it will happen today or tomorrow, no question about it! Clutching at straws.

I'm not even scared about it, just feel like, come on, hurt some more so I know it's going to be over! Weird, to be wanting pain to happen. Will let you know when it turns into something real, thanks again everyone x

With both pg, I had a show, then waters went, then contractions, then fully diated then emcs in 7 hours.

Wiith all three. Good luck - I'm jealous. I loved that the time- the anticipation....

Goes all broody

oreocrumbs · 11/04/2012 23:59

I'll give you some hope, mucas plug started to come away at 4pm, by 6pm had proper contractions, in hospital by 9pm and DD at 1.30 am!

My plug came away properly when I was in hospital and about 4 cm IIRC.

Good luck hope its not too long!

My first two dcs were induced so it dont count but with my 3rd & 4th dcs i had my show about 4 hours before giving birth so it can happen Smile
Goodluck op x

My show was a good week before labour.

CarterGirl · 14/04/2012 10:45

My show was at noon on a Monday, that evening I had some period-y type cramps. Woke up with some more of them in the night, thought 'oh well, I'll go to the loo now I'm awake', swung my legs to the side of the bed (correction- heaved them slowly in a pregnancy version of 'swung'), felt a 'pop' and waters went.. That was at 4 am and DS arrived at 4 pm! Lovely straightforward birth on gas and air (and apple juice!) despite having been quite clear in my head (and spoken wishes..) throughout my pregnancy that I'd be having an epidural and/ or any drugs to hand that helped with pain.
Good luck! Hope it all kicks off soon.
Oh and I was 38 + 2. My mum had me and each of my two siblings in week 38 of her pregnancies so was convinced I'd have baby in week 38. Annoying when mums are right.. :)

Hi guys, just an update, I know it's been a while! I went into labour on the Friday morning at about 3am, so from the show starting it was about 3 days. 12 hours later he was here, bit of a hairy time of it but am mostly ok now, just glad it's all over!
