Bleeding/period breastfeeding question

I have a beautiful DS who is 5 1/2 weeks, I bled for 4 after CSec and then it stopped. Yesterday I started bleeding again! I am exclusively breastfeeding and wondered if it could be my period? My first DS I breastfed for 15 months and got my period after 11 months so I'm a bit worried about this. Am thinking if it's not period then could be sign of something wrong? I had slight cramp like pains before the 2nd bleeding started & also a bit of discharge. Anyone got any ideas? Will becalling health visitor in the morning.

Hi Binky,
My DS2 is 7 weeks old today ... I stopped bleeding after about 5.5 weeks, but I find on the days when i'm more active (eg carrying DS2 (6kg)) in a sling plus pushing heavy DS1 (3) in a stroller all day, I start bleeding again... may be something similar for you? Of course, could also just be hormones are different this time and you've actually got your period... breastfeeding doesn't always stop it. Hope you figure it out :-)

My Ds is 5 months, I goy my period four weeks after giving birth, I was still bleeding lightly when this happened but it was getting less, new it was my period as it was sudddenly heavier and I was hormonal.

It could be either. What it does mean is that you absolutely cannot rely on breastfeeding as contraception now, so be sure to take additional precautions Smile.

Hi Mayfair, yes I have a 21 mo who is hard work & had noticed heavier bleeding when I had over done it a bit. But the bleeding had stopped at week 4.

I guess I will have wait & see if it's period or not.

And I would never rely on bf-ing as contraception anyway Smile
