Physiological third stage

Hi, am 35 weeks with DC3 and for the first time considering putting physiological third stage in my birth plan (had the injection to deliver in both previous).

Just wondered if anyone had any good/bad experiences of this, if you recommend it or not?

From a professional point of view I would say that many people ask for this and then end up changing their mind at the end because they 'can't be bothered to wait/push it out' etc.
Good luck. Have conducted many physiological 3rd stages and all went well.

That was me (planned on a physiological 3rd stage but changed my mind at the last minute). With hindsight I wished I had seen it through, because I was one of the unlucky ones who ended up with a retained placenta from the syntometrine injection....

In the end, what is the rush? Your baby is not going anywhere. You dont have a special appointment to rush off to straight after or anything.... I really quite wished I had spent the first 10, 20, 30, 60 minutes basking in that newborn glow with my baby.... not "trying to deliver the placenta".... And had I had the space to bask and snuggle and ENJOY those moment, I think the placnta would have just detached and come out! I think sometimes the not wanting to wait really comes from pressure from HCPs who only have a certain amount of time to spend with you.... So many are overstretched at the moment, sadly....

I wanted one, but I was bleeding and needed stitching up, so I had the injection to speed things up.

I had a physiological 3rd stage. Was so engrossed in breast feeding this squashed up little goblin I'd just produced that I didn't even notice the placenta.

I had one with second baby. All well, so wrapped up in cuddling baby did not really notice what was afoot. Had managed third stage with number one but had syntocinon drip so had to. Third baby I have no recollection of third stage at all... birth hurt so much I was just wondering at the miracle of never having to do it again and that I was still alive frankly (it was very fast so was probably in shock).

I had really high blood pressure during labour so they didn't give me the injection as it could make it worse. The placenta came out in about ten mins, with just a few pushes and it didn't hurt. Well not compared to a baby! I would have a physiological 3rd stage next time, but I wouldn't be too fussed if something else happened to make the injection necessary iyswim?
