How did your second labour start?

My first labour started with my waters breaking - shortly followed by text book mild contractions steadily increasing to active labour contractions.

Just met up with a friend whose first labour started exactly the same way but her second labour was kickstarted with a sweep and her waters didn't go till just before transition.

Here I am at 38 weeks having expected my waters to break 10 days ago...

1st labour was at 40+6 approx and started straight after DTD with regular pains getting stronger and closer together over a few hours. Waters didn't break until right before the birth

2nd labour started at 40+5 approx. Had a longer build up with more irregularity in the frequency, I think. However, they did get going, was 4cm when I got to the hospital, waters broke when midwife examined me and DD was born about an hour after that. I did find it more intense/uncomfortable/difficult than with the first but it was 4cm to 10 in an an hour rather than 5cm to 10cm in about 5 hours!

I had a show a day or do before, amazing Braxton hicks the night before and then contractions, loss of plug and away we went!

My waters broke during labour with DD2.

My first labour sounds very like yours OP; waters broke at midnight, contractions started about 40 mins later and increased gradually in frequency and intensity until DD1 was born at 10.46am. 45 min 2nd stage - hard work pushing as contractions seemed to have disappeared by then.

2nd labour was a planned home birth so I was so calm and relaxed knowing I didn't have to make that 'it's time to go to hospital' decision and being able to potter about in my own home with DH and the midwife chatting and drinking tea. Waters went as DD2 was born and contractions were irregular and varying in frequency and intensity from when active labour began at about 7.30pm (I'd been having 'niggles' on and off for a couple of days). DD2 was born at 1.16am. 10 min 2nd stage with 2 involuntary pushes and one heave-ho from me. When the midwife arrived and examined me at 11pm I was 9 cm dilated - I laughed, I couldn't believe it!

First labour waters broke at 4am-ish, contractions started at midday, DD1 born at 8:51pm - text book birth.

Second - waters broke at midnight, contractions started half hour later but in for EMCS as DD2 was breech.

So waters broke first with both of mine, however contractions started pretty much straight after with DD2.

Good luck!!

First was like yours but second time had start of contractions on night of due date and waters didn't break until the mw took an implement to them during active labour several hours later.

Third time i was nearly 2 weeks over and waters went as I was standing in birthing centre reception!

First labour was backache for a few days, then a bleed so went to the hospital to be checked out. Waters went on arrival and ds arrived 50 mins later at 39+1
Second labour waters went at 3am then nothing until 1pm when mild contractions started. Got painful around 3.30 dd born at 4.05 at 39+2.
So both quick but different.

2nd labour started with a contraction that felt like I'd been hit by a train. I literally gasped like bad actresses do when filming such scenes! Grin Then this continued every 3 minutes until DS was born. There was no waters going, no gentle build up. Just FULL ON massive contractions until he was born.

Only lasted for 4 hours though so can't complain too much!

1st labour was a long drawn out slow build over 28 hours. I'd take the 2nd any day!

I was exactly the same as your friend only waters went a little bit earlier. Midwife who did the sweep was proud of her 100% strike record!

DC1 - waters broke in bed, contractions started straight away, 24 hours later EMCS.

DC2 - early labour for three weeks, and then had a bright red bleed. Contractions started within an hour and came thick and fast! 2-10cm in 2 hours. Still ended up with an EMCS though.

First labour started with contractions, waters were broken during transition, wish I hadn't let them do that.
Second labour was started by pessary induction at 42 weeks. No transition, contractions merged into pushing and it lasted 6 hours.
