I'm 36 weeks and feeling rubbish and so ready for this pregnancy to be over.

Had midwife today, and the head is down but still free, feel bit disheartened as maybe I'm remembering wrong but I'm sure by this stage my last three were engaged and none arrived late.

I know they can engage at the last minute but just feel like he it was engage today I might be getting closer.
Sorry for moan.

All of my 3 didn't engage pretty much until they were born.

Hope your baby arrives soon :).

DD at 31 weeks.

DS never.

HappyAsEyeAm · 26/03/2012 13:22

DS - never engaged until he was born.

This pregnancy - 36 weeks and head not engaged (but is 'down').

threecurrantbuns · 26/03/2012 13:28

Well at least there is hope then that it may not mean I've got ages to go.

My last was so far down that the said they could only feel a fifth of the head but can remember at what week that was would have been either 36 or 38.

Need to get busy and try to snap out of thinking about every twinge and wondering when.

Mine don't seem to engage until I'm well into labour.

brettgirl2 · 26/03/2012 21:21

On the other hand dd2 was engaged at 34 weeks. She was born at 40+4. Everyone on here says 2nd babies are meant to engage really late!

Jamina · 27/03/2012 17:06

Hi this is my first and went to mw today and baby is engaged. I'm 38 weeks x

TheBreadstick · 28/03/2012 13:29

I can sympathise, at my 34 week app with midwife I was told baby was engaged (4/5ths) only to be told last week at 36 weeks midwife can still wiggle the head and s/he isn't engaged - just head down!

Mind you, if the grinding feeling in my pelvis is anything to go by, if LO wasn't engaged last week - it sure as hell is now!

ardenbird · 29/03/2012 01:16

I'm 40+3 with my first and the baby is finally engaged! Had an appointment today, but I think the change happened two days ago. She wasn't at my prev appt, at 39+1.

WandaDoff · 29/03/2012 01:21

None of my 3 engaged.

I had 3 reasonably quick labours though.

DS1 - 7 hrs 50 mins

DS2 - 3 hrs 51 mins

DD - 1 hr 25 mins.

2 of them came on their due date as well.

My baby's head didn't engage til I was giving birth. She was born 1 week after her due date.

hmmmum · 29/03/2012 10:52

I'm not sure how much difference it makes. My friend's baby engaged at 35 weeks but she had to be induced in the end and the baby wasn't born until she was 42 weeks pregnant.

justhayley · 29/03/2012 17:22

Hiya I just had my 35 week check
(I'm 35+4) and apparently my baby is 4/5ths engaged. Although reading this thread there doesn't seem to be any correlation between when baby engages and when he/she arrives so I wouldn't worry about it.

5madthings · 29/03/2012 17:28

all of my babies heads engaged REALLY early on in the pregnancy and i then went more than 2wks over with them all! in my case i am small only 5 2 and my babies were all big, so i think they had to engage as they didnt have any space, they were all very long, esp in the body, like dp, so they literally had to have their head right down and their bum was still up in my ribcage! but it didnt mean they turned up any earlier!

Bananna1 · 30/03/2012 16:17

I'm 36+6 with baby no. 4. and midwife today said it is really head down and engaged in the pelvis and thinks it will be here soon. I actually want it to be late as we are having loads of work done in the house and are SO not ready for baby!
I'm hoping, reading your posts, that the fact that it is engaged doesn't necessarily mean it's on its way just yet!

mrsjarvino · 31/03/2012 17:52

Don't think it says much at all! My first engaged later than my second, which is the opposite to what all the books and midwifes say!
I'm now 39+1 and baby has been 3/5ths engaged since week 28!! Made pelvis and Spd a lot worse but nothing else! Was convinced this one was gonna come early but only 6 days to go, its seeming pretty unlikely :0( Ho hum!

Bananna1 · 01/04/2012 20:45

mrsjarvino that gives me hope that mine will stay in a little longer (now 37+1) as really am NOT ready yet!
But hope yours comes really sooooooooooon :)

I had a sweep at 40+5 was told not engaged could barely feel head etc didn't think much was happening. This was 5pm. Woke up that night at 4am with cramp, DS was born at 7.50am. (second child) so ime it don't really mean nowt!

EdlessAllenPoe · 01/04/2012 20:51

fully engage?

  1. directly before/during labour. (op baby)

  2. about a week before

  3. before/during labour (hand by head causing wiggle room)

readysteadymummy · 02/04/2012 17:51

I was a week over and baby still hadn't engaged- during labour, I think, but by then I was on too much pain relief to care!
