What does lightening feel like?

I have had trouble walking (the bowling ball in my lower regions feeling!) over the last few days, & recently started sleeping propped up as sleeping on my side is way too uncomfortable...along with constant dull ache in my back I wondered if this was a sign that LO is engaging (I'm 39 weeks) But today it's so much easier to walk (aside from the backache which I still have). Can this be a result of lightening or am I just having a lucky 'feeling alright' day?

I am expected dc2 and it has gone in and out of bing full engaged several times over last 3 weeks (now 40+2). When it's right down my pubic bone fels like it's being split in 2. Next morning it's moved up and I can walk again. Backache has remained though - often really low in bum, sometimes middle of back.

That sounds familiar...does that mean LO's head partly engages then he thinks better if it and keeps moving up again??

Sounds like it. This is common with second or later pregnancies, but not so common with a first.

Usually with your first baby, once they move down and get engaged they stay there. With subsequent pregnancies they can pop in and out.

I think having slept well you may just be feeling more comfortable. With any luck you are going to be meeting your little one any day soon and the memory of being so uncomfortable will be getting replaced by the early day memories.

Best of luck to you both Smile
