Hi Ladies!
I am being seen at Birmingham Womens hospital and plan to give birth there. I am yet to have my tour of the birth centre or anywhere else there for that matter. I am 27 weeks pregnant with my first. I would like to hear from anyone who has experience of birth at this hospital from labour ward to birth pool.
Thank you

Hiya, I'm booked in at B'ham Womens! I'm 34 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby :) I won't be able to give birth in their Birth Centre (mine will either be a monitored VB or ELCS due to ongoing probs with my coccyx through first birth at Solihull Hospital) but I had a meeting with a consultant midwife about 6 weeks ago (to discuss mode of delivery) at the Birth Centre and I thought it looked FABULOUS.

If I could give birth there, I would. It had a lovely home-from-home feeling; quite cut off from the rest of the very busy hospital. Kind of like in it's own cocoon. Really nice.

Here is a link to their homepage:
www.bwhct.nhs.uk/

But this is the link that you might want to really explore:
www.bwhct.nhs.uk/pregnancyandbirth-overview.htm

I haven't had a tour or anything yet, bit maybethats because my baby's mode of delivery hasn't been completely decided yet.

Feel free to ask any more questions and I'll answer them if I can! Congrats on your pregnancy and best of luck with the birth :) x

Thought that you might find these pages useful in terms of patient feedback on the Womens:

www.patientopinion.org.uk
www.birthchoiceuk.com

I haven't fully researched these sites personally, but they look like they could be quite useful! X

hi ya. I am 39 +4 and although in the women's catchment have a homebirth planned... not because the hospital didn't look safe- really because it is DC2 and there are some serious midwife shortages in Birmingham at the moment. The other hospital I would have probably prefered over the women's is city road birthing centre... all very new with lovely birthpools etc.

I know one of the consultant anaesthetists at the womens and she is ace, I hope it all goes well for you; and I hope I dont have to end up getting transferred there! x
