Raspberry leaf tea after birth?

Hi,

Am I right in thinking that you're supposed to continue drinking raspberry leaf tea after the birth to help your uterus shrink back?

Does anyone know how many cups a day and for how many days you should stick with it? Also, would it make after pains any worse (or better?) as this will be DC2?

Thanks :)

I'm pretty sure I used up all that was left after my 2dc, but I love the taste. With dc2 my afterpains were much worse, they didn't even register with dc1. I'm on dc3 now and dreadign them worse than the birth tbh. The one thing I WOULD recommend taking after the birth, as soon after as you remember in fact, is arnica tablets to help with the bruising and swelling. I swear by them.

Ah arnica tablets? I've seen people mention those for post CS - do they work for post VB too? Presumably the bruising / swelling down there?

What exactly are they? Are they a thing is get from Boots or are they a health food shop type of thing?

Yes arnica for all types of birth. It is homeopathy specifically for healing. Holland and barrat or boots. Buy strength 30! Not 6 and start taking as soon as you have given birth but not before. With dc1 I carried around the house a little purse with arnica, painkillers and Lansinoh so I had it all to hand. Arnica cream is also good for bruising like on back of hand if you have had lines put in.

Sorry to hijack your thread OP, but I've just bought some Arnica and was wondering how much to take? I have strength 30, but do just take one tablet daily? And for how long? Thanks! Smile

Normally there is Dosage instruction on the packet. Just follow that there is no specific instruction for pregnancy. It works for any healing process.

LaTristesse · 06/03/2012 20:34

Yeah I thought there would be but there isn't. I bought them online from a homeopath...

I have nelsons 30c. It says take 2 every 2 hours for 6 doses, then 4 times daily for 7 days. You either put them unde your tongue or chew them. I was told NOT to take them before I had given birth.

Ah interesting... Thanks joygirl Smile

Thanks for the arnica info - that's interesting and helpful.

Anyone know the answer to my RLT Question though?

I don't know sorry but was also interested to know! After pains post birth can be flipping painful, and I was wondering whether rasp leaf tea might aid the shrinking process!

Biscuitsandtea · 07/03/2012 16:55

Well I couldn't work out if they'd aid the process, or intensify it and make the after pains worse Confused
