Lindo Wing vs. Kensington Wing?

I'm only 6 weeks but have gotten paranoid that the consultants/hospital spots will book up given the other threads!

First of all, where do you recommend better care/overall experience: Lindo Wing or the Kensington Wing?

Secondly, at the Lindo Wing, both Teoh and Murphy are on leave during my expected delivery date. I'd love to hear experiences with Doctors Lakasing, Thorpe-Beeston and Miskry. at Kensington, I've only heard about Mark Johnson, and a few mixed experiences (one friend loved him and another one got bad advice).

I don't live in London but am coming over to deliver, so any additional advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Personally I'd choose the Lindo wing every time. Teoh and Murphy are brilliant but there are many drs there who are also fab.

Miskry is excellent as is lakasing, don't know Thorpe-beeston. Also worth considering etienne horner and shahla ahmed - they're lovely.

Not only are they all brilliant drs individually but they are a close team. If there is EVER anything they need to chat over with each other then they will do without hesitation (eg miskry specialises in minimal access surgery on the gynae side and i know for a fact that the others will approach him if there is ever a question about how best to proceed with a patient - same goes for horner and recurrent miscarriage/ khullar and difficulties with bladder throughout pregnancy/ post partum.

I'd recommend them without hesitation!

Tired have you delivered in both? I can not comment on the Lindo Wing but was very happy and satisfied with KW. I was under the care of Zoe Penn but Mark Johnson delivered me. I would go back to him in a heartbeat. I was under his care for the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy and he delivered. Very professionaly, did a great job.

I'm under their care for other reasons Sad - so i can't comment on nursing staff etc but the drs are brilliant.

Thorpe-Beeston delivered both my DCs (both vb) and he was fantastic, couldn't recommend him more highly. He also does all of his own scans in his Harley Street consulting rooms, so it's nice to get the continuity of care. I had both of mine at the Portland. He delivers at the Portland, Lindo and Kensington (scheduled cs only) so you can choose your hospital at a later date if he can take you on. The key thing is to book your consultant early, and you can choose the hospital later, the consultant will guarantee you a space at the hospital of your choice. Between Lindo and Kensington, I would go for Lindo (based on friends' experiences/ dr recommendations), but you could also consider the Portland, you'll get a fantastic level of care.

Hi pbc, what is your EDD? I am 25 October. My friend recommended Mr Thorpe-Beeston at the Lindo, but he is on half term hols on my EDD, along with a number of other consultants. I am now booked with Mr Miskry (who I believe covers for Mr TB when he is not available) - I read lots of glowing reviews about him on the internet and am really happy with my decision.

I have opted for the Lindo as:

  1. it is attached to a proper hospital (unlike the Portland) which gives me reassurance in the event that there was a major complication; and
  2. I heard that the nursing staff at Lindo have, on the whole, been there a long time. I heard that this is the reason that Mr TB does elective CS at the Lindo but not at Kensington (I think pinkpeony meant "emergency cs only" instead of "scheduled cs only" - or maybe I have got things around the wrong way!).
  3. Lindo will be brand-spanking-new when we are due.
