Hi

I am currently 35 weeks pregnant. I have a history of premature labour and birth at 34 weeks, which was only 10 months ago. I had a EMCS so my scar is still raw. For this reason my Dr has booked me a c section for 5th april a day before my due date if i dont labour before naturally. I REALLY want a VBAC this time so wondered if i could ask my midwife for a sweep at 38 weeksif nothing has happened before....
The other things is, my baby has been fully engaged for 3 weeks now and i am struggling to cope with the pressure and pain plus a 10 month old. Plus i am slowly leaking my hind waters and feel like i am constantly pissing my pants :(
She is still waking in the night ALOT due to teething and getting up and out of bed isnt doing my back any favours...plus the 100 trips to the loo every night.
I am just feeling very down now and dont know how much longer i can wait for this baby to arrive and the thought of another c section with the recovery time plus a 10 month old DOES NOT sound appealing to me at all!!
Can any one help or give me some advice....

Thanks
x

I don't think that it would do any harm to ask riamay :)

My only thought would be that as you had an early CS last time, then your cervix may still be like that of a first-time mum (what with it not having been dilated previously IYSWIM) so it might not be possible to actually do the sweep (the earlier you have them done, the less likely they are to work) but it shouldn't stop them examining you to find out!

Don't have an answer for you, but I know it is policy here not to do a sweep until due date or later.

You are in quite an unusual situation though - have you discussed with your MW to get her views? Or are you under consultant led care only? IME the consultants/doctors take a more risk-averse approach so might be worth getting MW view to present to the doc?

That said, if your scar is still not fully healed from last time then might it be wise to follow doc's advice?

Sorry not been much help!

Hi ladies.

Well been having some strange tummy pains recently like a stitch and period type pains low down. Yesterday and today i feel sick and have the feeling to poop alot :(

Im very tired too and ratty today feel on edge like im going to rip DH head off if he breathes again! Lol
I have MW this wed. Defo going to ask if she can do ANYTHING in terms of sweep etc to avoid c sectin like FLISS said its worth a try?
Baby is so low down i sometimes think i can feel it touch the top of my inner thigh!
Is that a good sign?
DD was born at 35+2 which is what i am today :) she is 10 months old now!

You say you are leaking hindwaters - are you sure? Have you been checked? How long has this been going on? I would be concerned that you have ruptured membranes and no plan in place for monitoring/delivery.

Agree with traffic warden - it is really important that you get this confirmed so that a plan of care can be made.
