A lot of people are advised not to get sterilised immediately after a birth because of the additional hormones floating around in your body - appparently it can make the tubes that have been snipped re-grow!!

Also you need to be over 35 if on the NHS

I've asked my consultant about this, they will do it at the same time as c section, takes extra 10-15 mins. The failure rate is about 1/200. I asked is the failure rate worse when done at cs due to swelling, he said possibly, yes. I am 34, this is my 3rd child. I am not going to get it done, 1/200 is still too high compared to 1/2000 for vasectomy and mirena coil. I will probably try the mirena as my DH is not keen to have the snip. He is also not keen on me having sterilisation, something about unnecessary surgical procedures Hmm

It doesn't sound like you are having a cs though? It is still surgery and needs to be done at least laporoscopically, although I think there may be a vaginal option, certainly would still have to be in theatre.
