Can you take your own birth pool to the MLU or hospital?

Hello everyone.

I'm really, really keen to use a birthing pool for my upcoming labour (DC2). I have so far organised for a homebirth but actually my #1 preference would be to go the local MLU and if that fails be set up and ready to be at home. The MLU has one room with a birth pool and so it's not a given that I will be able to use it. I was wondering what the reaction would be if I turned up with a birth pool in a box and wanted to set it up? Has anyone done this???

it would depend on the hospital and really worth asking for in advance. Having visited my local MLU they only have 2 delivery rooms, one of which i don't know how they fit the baby in there let alone a birth pool if i was to bring one! lol

The main thing would be infection control measures they have to maintain

I would wonder how they'd fill and drain it. Takes quite a while from memory.
