Ok, so due date has come round - tomorrow - 29 February - meaning if i pop then, my DC will only have a real birthday every 4 years. And, it will be a pain because 29 February doesn't appear on most automated services.. I will be crossing my legs for the 24 hours as really don't want to go into labour then - can you reassure me and tell me it doesn't matter!

This has crossed my mind too. I'm sure it won't matter, but what do you do? I imagine somethings would be a nightmare, mainly forms and things. And deciding wether to celebrate on the 28th or the 1st.

Yes, but SOoooo special! My sister's 3rd child was booked for CS last 29th but she made them delay till the 1st March. (damn, too late to send birthday card to my DN now!! Just remembered)

russetbella1000 · 28/02/2012 10:11

I know! I'm overdue, just had a sweep so the law of sod will no doubt mean I deliver tomorrow arrghh. Trying to look on bright side too though as it will be even more special...:0) Can't believe how unreasonable I sound.

I was due 29th Feb 2004. Dd's birthday is 11/3 though - she is still very stubborn Grin

jeee · 28/02/2012 10:15

I overheard the DC were discussing this the other day. They unanimously agreed that the 29 February is the coolest day to have a birthday.

IceCreamCastles · 28/02/2012 10:15

I was due on the 25th. Would happily take a leap year birthday Grin

Bella30 · 28/02/2012 10:49

I'm also due tomorrow - on balance I think it would be quite special having a birthday on 29th. Also I'm hoping the little one doesn't hang around for another two weeks so the sooner it comes the better as far as I'm concerned... Smile

HidingInTheUndergrowth · 28/02/2012 13:03

I secretly would love to give birth on the 29th just because it would be the coolest day to have a birthday on even if it is a bit of a pain on automated forms.

Sadly I am not due until the 13th so unless the little one gets a move on my dreams will be in vain.

LackingNicknameInspiration · 28/02/2012 13:15

A somewhat different viewpoint but I'd have thought it would be great to have a birthday on 29 Feb - you get to have the mother of all parties every 4 years!

eggnut · 28/02/2012 16:29

I'd love to give birth on the 29th (especially as I'll be 10 days overdue at that point!) but comfort yourself with the fact that very few babies are born on their actual due dates! You'll probably go sailing right past it.

PoultryInMotion · 28/02/2012 16:37

I'll only be 36+6 tomorrow but a big fed up little part of me would love to have the baby tomorrow, it just feels so special and unusual!

MegIet · 28/02/2012 16:46

My little sister went to college with 2 kids who were born on the 29th Feb. And that was over 10yrs ago.

The fact I still remember this fact (and their first names) shows you how special it is. People won't forget a birthday on the 29th.

VivaLeBeaver · 28/02/2012 16:54

When I was 6 there was a girl in my class who was sobbing one year on the 28th of Feb as she had been born on the 29th and I rememebr her being upset about not having a "proper" birthday that year.

LiviaAugusta · 01/03/2012 14:38

My DD was born yesterday and I'm really pleased she's got such a special birthday! We've had nothing but good reactions too about her birth date Smile

FebreezeYourJeans · 01/03/2012 14:43

My best friend is a leap day baby and thrilled to bits to be 'only 12' yesterday. On lesser years, she always celebrates on 28 Feb as it would seem weird to her to change her date and month.

clux73 · 01/03/2012 14:49

I think you're worrying unnecessarily. It was my daughter's birthday yesterday, she was 4, so in fact its the first time we've had a 29th Feb since the day she was born. I have NEVER had any problem with automated services - why would you??

Everyone thinks her birthday is really special and she's really proud to be a little bit different. She got extra good presents this year too as it was her "proper" birthday!

Congratulations LiviaAugusta :)
