Am planning a home birth, DH currently setting up birth pool as we speak :)

This is dc2, I had high blood pressure in pregnancy with dd and was induced, on medication etc and despite my bp being fine throughout this pregnancy have been on home monitoring and really had to fight to be 'allowed' a home birth. Well, contractions are coming every 5-6 mins now and just took my bp and it's high, from between 152/105 to 138/94.

I just know as soon as I call the midwives theyll want to transfer me in argh! What should I do? :(

Try and relax. Stressing out wont help your blood pressure. Have you got a TENS machine? Strap that on for distraction if nothing else.

With the birth while a homebirth is great (I had one - am a big fan) it's only great if both you and baby are safe. Can a midwife come out to see you? They can be a bit funny about you getting in the pool without them looking you over and being dilated enough but it is hugely relaxing for some women.

Use "What will happen if we wait ten minutes and see? What will happen if we don't do that?" Aims website have some good stuff on this.

Have you got a bag packed just in case? Is there someone to look after dc1 so dh can go with you if necessary?

But the best thing you can do (in my non-medical opinion) is to try to relax and speak to the midwife ASAP.

I have no idea if your BP is very high so do get that checked by a medic.

I've never got my head round blood pressure readings so I can't offer any advice, but good luck!

I have to go to bed. Good luck with the birth op.
