Last night I saw my consultant (14 weeks pp) and he applied some silver nitrate to my scar as there was a bit of excess scar tissue. Today it's still quite sore where he applied it and it burns like hell (where my episiotomy was) when I wee.

Is this normal?

Hiya! I THiNK silver nitrate is used in overgranulation.... So basically when too much tissue is growing over the wound do the silver nitrate sticks are used to like... Burn it off. I'm assuming in the long run that it will be more comfortable/ neater for you?! Hope this helps, only really
Known it to be used on legs and things!! X

no idea, but to help with the stinging have you tried pouring luke warm water on your bits when you wee? thats what i did after birth each time and it helped loads! maybe try that and i hope you feel more comfortable asap, if not a trip back to the drs for a check up maybe?

When I got excess tissue burned off with silver nitrate I was given an antiseptic/anaesthetic spray to apply to the treated area. It does take a wee while to heal but was worth it in my case.

Yes I had this three times and it will be a little sore in the area but not for more than a day or so so any longer and go back to dr. You can numb the pain with instillagel or lidocaine both are creams available over the counter in a pharmacy. Fwiw this treatment really helped me so hopefully you'll feel better too in a while:)

Thanks for replying.

I've had a look and the patch he applied silver nitrate to is red raw and when I dab with toilet paper is a bit bloody. Is there anything I can put on it?
