Lindo Wing

I understand Lindo Wing at St. Mary's has been renovated already, has anyone had recent experience there? I'm 9wks pg, having a booking appointment with one of the consultants next week and whilst she practices at both Portland and the Lindo Wing, I think I'd prefer Lindo (cheaper plus reassurance as it's part of NHS hospital). Also, curious whether I can have blood tests and scans on NHS and combine it with private consultant-led care. thanks.

apologies for the earlier message, it appears that the renovation of the Lindo Wing has not been completed yet. They hope it will be open by September but they are not sure.
Another option could be Lansdell Suite at St. Thomas although I am concerned that it does not have a nursery and allows the partner to stay for one night only (I would like an ELCS). Any recent experiences at Lansdell?

I am due in October 2012 and have been told by both the Lindo and my consultant that it will be open by Easter 2012. Maybe the reference to September was September 2011 (on a previous slippage in the timetable?) - I hope so anyway!

I am due to give birth by c-section on 11 May at St. Mary's. Lindo wing manager called me today to say it will not be open by then. They did not give a new expected opening date.

I am due the first week of november and have been assured by the Lindo staff and my Obstetrician that it will most certainly be open by then... but equally am getting nervous!

Two weeks ago I was told by a St Mary's Midwife they were taking 'some' patients by the second week of May and would be able to do tours by the end of May. Has anyone heard anything different from this?

SweetPea3 · 02/05/2012 10:21

I heard from my Obst that it's all but finished - i.e. they are fixing snags or doing test run or similar. That is obviously no comfort to Occhiblu and others who are due in May, but those of us who are booked in later in the year should be fine.

Latay - I'm due in the last days of October so we may end up there at the same time!

Thanks SweetPea3, went and had a tour of the top floor the other day and was massively relieved. The operating theatre I believe is to be finished in mid June but it all looked secure, well organised, great rooms and bathrooms and a good size - 11 beds, with full staff and midwives who've been there 20+ years. Couple all that with being right next to an NHS hospital should an emergency arise and I saw what I needed to see - plus it comes with my OB's recommendation, that's enough for me! Perhaps I'll see you there! :)

I don't know why you would have NHS scans when you are paying upwards of £12k for private care to save a few hundred pounds - many people have full NHS care but pay extra for private scans (at e.g. FMC or with another consultant who specialises in scanning if yours doesn't). IMO having a proper fetal medicine consultant doing your scans is one of the most valuable bits of private antenatal care.
