Had to be induced 1st time and had very painful 18 and half hour labour. Am a week late with second baby and desperate to kick start labour naturally and have a better experience any ideas? Have tried raspberry leaf tea, sex, curries, bumpy car rides and walking.

Acupuncture is very good.

reflexology

Tonker · 25/01/2006 16:42

I 2nd the reflexology. I went when I was 11 days overdue last time, and I could feel the baby moving down and a pulling sensation inside whilst she was massaging my feet. The next day he'd really dropped and I had him the following day at 13 days overdue. I've read that it has a better success rate for inducing than hospitals. I also refused to be induced at the hospital as the risk to the baby between 2 weeks and 3 weeks late is very small.

Nipple stimulation!

Lightly rotate in figures for twenty minutes each in turn - do this for 1 hour 20 minutes!- I was getting contractions after 1 hour! I was then 6 days late! dd was born early the following day Good luck xxxx

Have you tried pineapple? I went for a long walk (to the hospital to find out where to go for the induction which I never need to have) and had a weak gin and tonic. Waters broke that night!

Hi there everyone!!! I'm 39 weeks and 2days pegnant and a first time mum. It probably sounds daft but on monday night I was convinced I was in labour contractions were coming every 20-15 mins all night then same again on tuesday and wednesday they didn't get any closer or worse in strength they just stopped has anyone had a simular experience or could anyone offer me advice on when I will know when it really happens it would be greatly appreciated thanx.

You are probably in pre-labour. Your body is limbering up for the full on labour.
At the risk of sounding trite, you WILL know when it is really happening, as the contractions become more and more powerful. It usually takes a while to work up to that stage when it is your first baby.
Try to get as much rest as possible. I know it is really hard to sleep when getting these practice contractions, as you are excited and concerned at the same time. Good luck.
To Emmawill, squats worked for me.

emmawill · 26/01/2006 09:24

To Dee2203. Yes with this second pregancy I'm getting that which is doing my head in as I've been through it once and was convinced that I would know for sure when i was going into labour this time round, but this has been a totally different pregnancy I'm expecting a boy this time round though and my first was a girl. Unfortunaley you will know when the contractions take your breath away and they are very regular then its time to give the midwife a ring!! Good Luck. I'm going to try reflexology on Saturday even if doesn't work it sounds nice and relaxing. I had never heard of pineapple anyone know why that's meant to work? Worried if I tried squats I'll never make it back up!!!!!!

To emmawill glad to know someone else is going through it Im having a boy as well. Had appointment with midwife today and if baby doesnt arrive by next thurday then Im having a membrane sweep. I have also tried sex curries and walking but that hurts a bit too much now so giving up now and Im going to let the professionals sort it out. Hope your baby arrives soon and its better than your first labour loadsa luck!!!

TicTacsMum · 26/01/2006 22:48

I ate about 3 pineapples but it took the lining off my tongue and stung like hell! Also had a bath with clary sage oil (about 6-8 drops mixed with carrier oil), massaged said oil onto bump & back and put some on a tissue beside my bed at night. Was in labour within 36 hours and swear it was the clary sage. Would do it again!

emmawill · 27/01/2006 01:02

I was meant to have a membrane sweep last tuesday but the midwife couldn't do it as my cervix was to far back or something, I don't know. Think at the end of the day their just going to come when their good and ready even though just keeps teasing me and I'm still getting horrendous heartburn (hence still up at 1am!!) thought that was meant to stop when they drop?!
