Mucous plug

Just hoping for some guidance here. I'm 37+4, had a lot of period type cramping yesterday and lower back ache then a calm night and nothing much more today. Just been to the loo and there's no mistaking the large amount of thick gloppy mucous that came away when I wiped. This must be the mucous plug coming away? Any experience on whether this means anything - might we be all systems go in the next few days or could it still be a matter of weeks?

My plug went at 6 in the morning and contractions started within hours. DS took a while coming but it was definitely the start! Good luck, looks like you could be on your way! Smile

Thanks, exciting! Just managed a quick Tesco trip as figured I should stock up on things while I can! Trying to stay calm and not get my hopes up too much...

Its definitely a sign that things are on the move in the right direction. However, dont get too excited. I lost mine a week before my waters broke (as a slow trickle) and DS didnt arrive until 4 days after that. So it could start any minute, or it could be a bit longer. Pack your hospital bag if you havent already but dont go calling everyone saying that things are happening.

Just a quick update, the mucous plug was definitely the start for me. Half an hour after my last post on this thread about it, my waters broke and contractions kicked in. I gave birth just under 3 hrs later, quite a surprise!

My mucus plug went this morning too. I had a stretch and sweep yesterday so it obviously helped bring things on.

Arh wow thats amazing congratulations GrinGrinGrin hope my labour happens like that! Any tips?

Nursee007 · 26/02/2012 16:11

on the contrary, I've had 2 sweeps, one at 38 weeks and one at 39, and have lost a fair amount of mucus on 4 separate occasions....and nothing. I'm due tomorrow and going in to be induced the day after if nothing happens due to severe SPD......so don't count on it making things happen!

Nurse I had a sweep at 41 weeks and had a show, was induced 8 days later.

Anyone who tells me a sweep worked for them is unlikely to be believed, seeing as they're usually only done when your likely to go into spontaneous labour anyway Grin
