Yes, had one with DD2. Midwife said she could 'stretch' it to about 4 cm so she was fairly confident it'd work as I was ready. Had it at 3pm and had DD at 10pm. Good luck!

blackoutthesun · 14/02/2012 13:17

yep had a sweep at 4pm, gave birth 12 hours later

BadDayAtTheOrifice · 14/02/2012 13:19

Yes. I had 2 the first time. A colleague did one for me and the next day my mw did one. Contractions started 10 minutes after the second, every 5 minutes. Baby 12 hours later.
2nd baby, I did it myself and went into labour 4 hours later. Smile

I refused a sweep, as got 2 40wks, and they were just trying 2 pressure me in2 one. I refused and waited 4 mother nature, and dd2 came 3 days late at 40+3. Wasn't offered on with dd1 as she came 2days early at 39+5 x

BamBam21 · 14/02/2012 13:25

Oh, I wish!AngrySad

Just back from 41wk post-dates appointment. MW was going to do a sweep, but after much rummaging, told me that she couldn't because I'm effaced but not dilated, and she couldn't hook her finger in.ConfusedSad Just feel really uncomfortable now and so, so disappointed and frustrated.

Kayano · 14/02/2012 14:06

Fingers
Crossed then! Appointment is 4pm!!!

My mw
Constantly tells me about her freezing cold hands though Sad what a thing to worry about! Grin

simbo · 14/02/2012 15:45

Yep worked for me with ds2. Had him next day.

Kayano · 14/02/2012 18:48

I'm so upset!!!

Got there and they were all 'we don't do sweeps where you live til 41 weeks so come back next week.'

I'm totally gutted

I wore my little pony knickers and everything Sad

Sorry you were disappointed. In answer to your original questions yes, and no.

I didn't go past my due date with DC2 and refused the offer of a sweep with DC3. I wouldn't have one again, I'd rather wait, no matter how frustrating that gets Smile. Babies aren't overdue until after 42 weeks anyway.

Peekabooooo · 14/02/2012 18:51

My midwife attempted to do one at my 40 week appointment but they cudn't reach my cervix, had one at 41 weeks but it didn't work.

BadDayAtTheOrifice · 14/02/2012 18:58

Oh, I'm so disappointed for you!

But.....My Little Pony Knickers? Do they do those in adult size?

MiauMau · 14/02/2012 19:04

Ever since I've been told by a midwife that she won't do them, because if she can put her hand in to sweep then the mother is getting pretty ready and there's no point to it and if she can't get her hand in there's also no point to it as it will just be horrible, well... I'm with her!
