Anyone had an infected wound after CS?

My wound has gone red and a little weepy. MW isn't sure if it's an infection but has started me on antibiotics in case whilst waiting for results of a swab. Has anyone else had an infected wound? Are antibiotics enough to cure it? Will it still heal as neatly?

After my 2nd emcs the wound reopened a bit. It was red and weepy but no infection. The fluid was something called serous fluid and is normal, slightly yellow and is a good thing. The edges of the wound were red, the wound looked sort of squidgy/gunky and knotted tight in places. I was advised to air the wound. TMI but I had to lie down as otherwise the overhang covered it and was making the area too warm/moist.

5 months later it has healed perfectly. Neat, tidy and as unnoticeable as the first time.

Red and weepy = infection even if its mild. Your midwife was wise. Also, if there is anything coming out, that means bugs can easily get in. Not good when you are already extra vulnerable after childbirth/blood loss/surgery and tiredness.

I had an infection. I had two courses of one kind of antibiotic that did not work, then the wound broke open and they were able to take a swab and give me an effective antibiotic. Then it healed up really quickly.

I had would infections after each of my C/S. Took three courses of antibiotics the second time round, but that's because I'm allergic to the most effective ones and I also had a haematoma. Lucky me!
It did take a little longer for the scar to heal, but six months on and it looks like it's healed well and no long-term effects.
Take care of yourself and try not to rush around. You may feel a little ropey with the infection. Best to rest as much as possible and eat well. Hope that you feel better soon.

Thanks all. These descriptions sound just like mine. Will take tablets and air it 2. Thanks again :-)

Airing it is the key. Mine is infected at present with 2 openings , after 2 lots of anti biotics I have now resorted to bathing it twice daily with tea tree oil, wearing no knickers (i'm 5 weeks post so bleeding has stopped) and airing it whenever possible.
I have an disgusting overhang which I have to literally hold up in older to let the air in.

I'm 2 weeks post so still bleeding and with 2older DCs on half term hols, airing it is nearly impossible. The antibiotics do seem to be working though. Out of interest when did your bleeding stop? I really sympathise with poor babies and nappies. Can't wait to stop wearing pads!

My bleeding stopped at week 3 then I just had a bit when I wiped.

I had an infection and 1 course of antibiotics cleared it.The bit that opened up took longer to heal but it wasn't too bad.It was a bit bumpier than previous CS scar but that could be down to previous scar tissue just as well as the infection.

You must be careful to not overdo things although its so hard with older DC's.

Hope things settle soon.
